Apparently ICQ is dying in a month. My number was 185645 and that is my ultimate “I was an early adopter as a child” flex for people that are now old. Except for me. Because I will always be 29.

@film_girl …once you finally turn 29. 👍

Brains are weird.

I haven’t carried a wallet in my back pocket for 5 years or so.

I got out of my car this morning and started walking and my brain noticed my back pocket was empty and was like “hey man you lost your wallet”

pgor,
@pgor@mastodon.social avatar

@pixel There’s a PKDick book, believe it was “Time Out of Joint,” that posited that those glitches were slips between realities. An example was reaching to pull the light cord in a closet that had always had the switch on the right of the door: Remebering the other reality.

I don’t look at the App Store app much anymore. It has become irrelevant to both my personal and business life, which is unfortunate.

I just scrolled through maybe 8-10 screens on the “Today” tab before I found anything I could identify as an indie app…or much of anything that wasn’t just entertainment/games.

pgor,
@pgor@mastodon.social avatar

@agiletortoise Every infrequent time I look at the store I feel the same, with an added reminiscence of looking at the charts every day to see what cool new app was out there.

The older I get, the more I approve of walled gardens. Like you have gates, and you should be liberal about allowing different things in, but the instant something starts fucking with your peace?

Yeet the MFer.

YEET. THEM.

For the unbearably pedantic, I’m not talking about people who legitimately challenge your preconceptions or status quo.

Those folks are rarely assholes.

That cool thing where a band will have the first song on an album fade in so the first time you play it you accidentally turn it up way too loud.

    It's so fucking cool that Apple changed how Target Disk Mode works with macOS 11 in that it requires that you use a Thunderbolt cable, even though the target device (a 2018 MacBook Air Retina) comes with a USB-C cable and even though you used to be able to do this over USB-C. Great that they bury this in the fucking docs too. Because you know, we ALL travel with Thunderbolt 3 or 4 cables with us when going home for the holidays.

    @film_girl Same boat. Currently waiting on delivery of a USB-A thumb drive so I can archive my deceased (summer 2022) MIL’s files from her Core 2 Duo iMac running 10.13.6. Won’t AirDrop or even iCloud Drive(!) with my M1 running 14.2.1.

    A nice aspect of subscribing to a music service is (generally) having access to remastered versions of albums you bought decades ago, and not feeling pressured to purchase the upgrade.

    I can't emphasize how helpful it is to get good with a debugger. It's the main reason I can get dropped into a project and, even if I don't have all the context, figure out how the parts work and start fixing/adding things immediately.

    pgor,
    @pgor@mastodon.social avatar

    @woolie @ctp @collin Hell, I write code in such a way (e.g. lots of local vars, stored instead of calculated props) to better debug and get plenty of “MOAR TERSE!” grief for it.
