Tomorrow I'm getting two USB sticks (because I've lost all I had). One for a windows recovery drive and one for a bootable USB installer. I feel like trying Ubuntu again for a while! It's been YEARS!
@playmedusa oh that's not it. Ventoy is just a wrapper that let's you select from all the ISOs you've included.
It'll boot into a minimal live system and from there you can continue to boot into whatever ISO you've put onto the drive. From there you can of course use a live system, install the OS or whatever. 🙂
I am looking for art style references for this one-screen coop platformer. Inspiration comes frome Lode Runner, Nightshift and Burguertime. I personally love Annalynn's classic looks, like Wonderboy or Bubble Bobble/Rainbow Islands. But what does this early capture suggest you?
How does one hire an artist for a game knowing you can't afford to choose wrong because you have a limited budget? If it's not the right person (for non-artistic reasons, like attitude or compromise) and you find out a few months into the project...
@playmedusa same as hiring in any other situation I guess? interview them first if you don't know them personally, and I guess maybe ask for references if you weren't referred to them by someone?
@aeva up until now I've never done that. Being a freelancer myself (game design and programming) it's me the one who gets hired, but I've never been on the other side!
Yes, an interview is mandatory, but then it's your gut and a some luck, I guess...
New enemies! Yep, they look the same, we are still using placeholder assets. But these can climb ladders! There's a silly bug if the ladder ends right where a platform ends (they fall), but we'll get there. Next, that bug. And enemies that actively chase you!
Just peeked into #picotron and I'm... in awe. So much packed into a very fine piece of software, and that's just the beginning!
Wonder if it will ever publish to consoles! Would that be even possible, @zep ? That would be quite slap on the face for many many game engines! But even if it doesn't, it still feels like a very nice set of tools to work with.
@playmedusa that's the plan -- although it won't be any time soon, I'm planning on open sourcing the runtime at 1.0 (and giving it a developer friendly license) so that carts can be ported more easily.
Seems I made it! :D I managed to make something that feels like a game, as cute as I could. I hope it will make you laugh or at least smile. It's very short, as I had to learn quite a few things and lost a lot of time with silly issues due to me not being acquainted with Defold.
Would be nice to extend it for two players, add level progression, a larger game space...
@aeva yes, that's what docs say. But then you have to check for nil all the time. Sometimes you just need to be able to remove and make the list shorter, don't you?
There are plenty of modules that already do it, that's not the issue, but puzzles me :)
Back at pixel art? Will I be able to draw and animate all the characters for this game like I did for Nosferatu: Rites of the Skull Cult, while also programming part of it? It's quite a daunting task! #pixelart
@Liquidream Right! It's McClane. Indeed he didn't use a suppressor, but Hans did have one. We have added it for gameplay reasons, so you can take minions down without raising the alarm. Plus, it was featured in almost every 80-90s action movie! 😅
I'm enjoying Poker Face a lot! Just watched the third episode. It's like a reverse crime show - you know who, why and what they did, and then how Colomb... er... Charlie figures it all out.
Do you know more games like Into The Breach, Undergrave, 868-HACK, Overland, Hoplite, Ayro or Enyo? Genre would be something like "strategy in small spaces with little or no micro-management". Self-promotion encouraged!
