Raised crosswalks and protected bike lanes help calm traffic, but apparently, the construction projects that build those things might also help reduce crashes:
From the article it seems like the presence of construction itself is a factor, yeah - an unpredictable environment with hazard signs all over it causing people to be more aware
And then also they emphasize that the 2-lane configuration (vs 4) is probably contributing just as much, so you wouldn't have to keep the street permanently under construction
@mibwright That's all true, too, yeah - there are systemic problems that will cause this to happen more and more regularly until we just build some goddamn rail
What's happening specifically right now is a labor shortage, wildfire smoke, and weather
I have an overwhelming and very annoying house fly invasion in the kitchen and I cannot work out where they are coming from. I have done all the obvious things, but every day, every morning, there are flies on the floor presumably new hatched... I am glad they are easy to squish but I need to find out where the hatchery is. If it's underneath the cupboards, beyond the baseboards, I have no way of getting into there.
DT is "threatening" to "boycott" Republican primary debates
DT has been advised by his lawyers to shut the fuck up about being president, he's under about 30 investigations for his presidential conduct and shouldn't be saying anything on tape about anything
Blaming his non-attendance on FOX coverage is an attempt at saving face through blame-shifting
We are so unprepared for the next #COVID19 wave. Visited a pharmacy to buy some COVID tests. They don't have any and don't plan to restock them. Meanwhile, COVID continues to mutate, the population's immunity continues to fade, and we have another dangerous fall and winter ahead of normal social and travel behaviors with zero mitigations. Those who don't learn from history...
@augieray I bought tests today, had to ask for help to find them, the pharmacist couldn't even remember where they were - like it had been that long since someone asked about them
I've been answering "no I don't have a disability" for years because getting a diagnosis for any of my mental health issues or neurodiversity is just not on the radar
and realizing just now that nowhere in this disclosure does it say you need a documented diagnosis
There's this thing happening on Tiktok where people, almost exclusively white because, of course, are saying how the lack of sympathy for a wealthy white dude is an indicator of how 'uncivilized' the US has become.
Not homelessness. Not removing the bodily autonomy of half of the population. Not out of control police. Not rampant hate crime and violence. Not wage theft. Not unaffordable healthcare. No book banning. Not targeted discrimination of the trans community. Not the utter disregard the country showed for people during Covid.
Nope. None of that.
What shows we are a BAD SOCIETY is not showing empathy for a rich dude who suffered the consequences of his actions and took people down with him.
I just... it's not funny, but I can't stop laughing. It's yet another example of how white folks, even ones that consider themselves 'liberal,' will just turn on people the moment a random sensibility is offended.
So what we've learned this weekend is that Lukashenko, the Belarusian president, is the actual leader of #Russia
Because Lukashenko doesn't want it, because war in Ukraine is good for Lukashenko, a Russian armed rebellion changed its mind about the whole thing and the Russian president is just letting them walk away
The best explanation I can think of for this kind of leverage is that Lukashenko is keeping a lot of Putin's money and some of it was used to buy off Wagner
Belarus gets stronger by taking Russian money (and nukes) while Ukraine and Russia bloody each other
Lukashenko makes deeper and deeper Russian (and NATO) contacts as Belarus is elevated to critical importance due to the strategic nature of the conflict
All the while expending very little of its own resources: all Lukashenko has to do is keep it going for another year or two and Belarus will be the regional superpower
Figure out when delivery day is and order the day before delivery day; it's usually every week
By that point most of the fish that aren't going to make it have already died and been scooped out and you're left with only the ones that have proven they can survive the shock of being moved
If you didn't know that, and you showed up the day after a delivery, what you'll see is a guy scooping half a dozen dead fish out of every single tank
Some of these fish have an MSRP of $30 and some of them sell for $0.50 and I'm pretty sure it costs about the same to produce any one of them and the only difference is how much people want them
@SRLevine It's frustrating because the class war is clearly already a shooting war - millions of vulnerable people died to save 401ks - and the casualties are still rolling in
But one side has no ammunition and wouldn't know how to shoot back if it did
