ooh i figured it out - Ariel had to lose her voice because of the surgery to close her gills and adapt her trachea for air breathing, but this was all too complicated for her to understand, so Ursula just said "it's magic, i'll take your voice"

I went to see the cherry blossoms at the brooklyn botanic garden and they really turned it up to eleven
