Zwei Minuten Endoskopkamera-Video: 200 MB. 🤨

Joah, 1920×1080 MJPEG 30 fps, plus unkomprimiertes 16-bit 16 kHz Audio.

Und die Kamera hat nicht mal ein Mikrofon.

scy,
@scy@chaos.social avatar

What's missing: An operation mode for md5sum, sha256sum etc. that's basically "take an expected checksum as a command-line argument, read an input stream from stdin, output it unmodified on stdout, and once the stream ends, exit with a return code that tells me whether the stream matched the checksum".

I know --check exists, but this consumes the stream instead of passing it on, which sucks if you intend to pipe it to another tool.

Combining tee and bash's >(…) is probably a workaround for it.

scy,
@scy@chaos.social avatar

@deraffe I mean, if I'm splitting the output anyway, I can just use --check instead of grepping. Copying to a file is not a good option though if the input stream is 75 GB in size. Not only does it need additional disk space, but it also takes additional time to be written before it can be verified.

But yeah, writing a small Python tool occurred to me, too.

ughhh, is such a mess.

But it comes with every installation of and , so as someone who enjoys minimalism and likes to keep the number of additional plugins to a minimum, I feel like I should learn to use it and integrate it into my workflow.

But I've just used :Rexplore on a dirty file with 'nohidden' and it simply replaced my file's contents with the directory listing 😬

Also, don't make the mistake of looking at its source, or visiting the maintainer's "website" …

I'm grieving for Stack Exchange. It's been such a good concept. I've learned a lot there. I've enjoyed contributing. "Let's build upon each other's knowledge and find the best answers, collaboratively" is such a great premise.

Well, not anymore. "AI" has to eat everything.

We've been, or are in the process of, losing so many good things lately, for different reasons. Twitter, Reddit, GitHub, Raspberry Pi, search engines, streaming services … capitalism is enshittifying everything.

I like how just works for me in vanilla/Debian now. No more need to have Lutris installed. This is no dis on Lutris, it's just that I prefer not to have several wine installations if I can avoid it.

Well I'm not sure I agree with your decision to automatically set up systemd-boot as my UEFI boot manager just because I'm installing the systemd-boot package.

I literally just wanted to read the manpage and play around with bootctl.

I especially disagree with your decision to first fuck with my existing, working GRUB2 installation and then copy kernel and initrd to /boot/efi, which turns out to be not large enough on my system, leading to a somewhat broken boot setup.

I'm old enough to remember how @creativecommons was founded as a way for independent creators to safely share their work and build upon each other.

In 2024, their take is now "billion dollar companies plagiarizing your art is fair use".

Hats off to the author, you don't see that kind of, uh, skillful rhetoric chicanery every day. Like "generative AI doesn't compete with artists because artists are not in the data market". 😬
