selokichtli,

Thank you. Now that I’ve showed you my appreciation, are you fucking kidding me?

selokichtli,

I think it’s been years now. At least a couple of years, I was baffled too back in the day.

selokichtli,

I stopped using Google when they dropped their “don’t be evil” principle. Not just because of that, but because their prior decisions were going against the principle. Sure it was ~10 years ago. A couple of years ago I tried Google search hoping it was still decent, but Jesus Lord, it sucked.

It’s still not the same. The current writing resembles an afterthought. In the past the moto was the first thing you would read in the Code of Conduct.

And there is also the complete lack of sense between the moto and their decisions.

I would take a look at Reddit, right now, to see what you refer to as an “atrocity”, but they block me for using a VPN, so…

selokichtli,

Yeah, some bartenders wake that kind of behavior in my imagination.

selokichtli,

I didn’t think people really expected to believe that their smart stuff was really theirs. Did they? Imagine renting your bulbs to Amazon.

selokichtli,

Hey, it’s overwhelming to be that cute 24/7.

selokichtli,

I use both all the time. Organic Maps rendering and navigation feels snappier, even with 2.5D support, and less cluttered, but since I do contribute to OpenStreetMap, OsmAnd is unmatched for editing and access to power tools like up-to-date data, GPS tracking, PDI editions, etc.

Unfortunately, in my country the map is not as complete as the proprietary options, so, using OsmAnd is more practical for me. As a regular user, though, I’d prefer Organic Maps.

selokichtli,

Well, I like it. Yes, it requires some time, but overall makes a lot of sense as a comparison. I would have left the 794 cities part out of the graphic to see more clearly the difference between the USA and outside the USA, but I guess you wanted to show it for some specific reason. That part was the only one I had to “guess” by adding the n value for USA plus the one for non-USA cities.

I think he’s smart and brave. A lot of smart people won’t say what they think because of people everywhere checking on discourses for the smallest fractures getting offended. Smart people, in the end, will choose their battles. Bill Burr is not always on point but he does not shy away from stating his point of view. Sometimes he does it brilliantly. I don’t follow the guy as much as a fan or a critic would to know why they like him or why they hate him right now. Seriously, cancelation culture is not constructive.

It’s unfair to have a discussion calling names by default. For me, even 18 is not enough to understand the ramifications of consent, but it’s too hard to keep 18 year-olds from having as much sex as they desire (some of them do desire a lot). If you start calling me a prude for this, what should I call you from my POV?

selokichtli,

We should start recognizing this genocide as an Israel and the USA one, not only Israel’s.

Youtube Rant from a paying customer

I used to use NewPipe back in the days of yore. Then I got Youtube Premium since it bundled in Youtube Music as well which I used. But the former’s app on mobile is a shit show. Even after paying, you are asked to tip random creators, purchase merchandise[ which are shown as actual ads below videos] and join channels to access...

selokichtli,

I don’t even like the widespread use of the word “creator”.

selokichtli,

I was always in the Android camp because it was more FOSS then, more AOSP. Being said that, another competitor was and is desperately needed. When Windows Phones were in the wild, I had hope. But take a look at Windows 11, if Windows Phone had been a success, by now it would be utter shit.

selokichtli,

They all find their way to shit when profit, not user satisfaction, is the ultimate goal. In the end, we are talking Microsoft here, we already know them.

selokichtli,

It’s hard to avoid being their “customer” here. It feels more like the taxpayer experience.

selokichtli,

I guess some parents need the money more than others. For sure, you are not the only one.

Canadian photographer Francois Brunell searches and photographs similar people, but who are not related to each other. He has currently done about 200 couple portraits.

Canadian photographer Francois Brunelle spent 12 years tracking down real life Doppelgängers — two individuals who are not related but could pass for identical twins — and photographing them. He calls his project “I’m Not a Look-Alike,” and it’s starting to get some well-deserved attention....

Mexico is heading towards its most violent election ever, with 30 candidates murdered, 77 threatened and 11 kidnapped (english.elpais.com)

More than 170 attacks have been committed against politicians in the lead-up to the June elections. This violence has put campaigns under tension and is sowing doubts about governability in several regions. Specialists warn that the line between the Mexican state and organized crime is increasingly blurred...

selokichtli,

We all should hope for that. It’s a bit weird for me that media keeps repeating that things just don’t change or are even worse. This April was bad, it was a month so violent as we haven’t seen in two years. I really hope this doesn’t start a trend.
