shneancy,

don’t forget skimming the paper for quotes and or handy graphs if you’re feeling ambitious

shneancy,

yes I’d say both of these things to said groups of people at least once, if told not to because they felt it was offensive I’d obviously stop, but I believe that purposely trying to santise your own language because you assume they’ll get upset is infantalising.

As a trans person I’m often on the receiving end of such treatment, people are afraid to ask me questions I’d be happy to answer because they assume they’d upset me by a mere mention of my biology.

Walking on eggshells around minorities is, though well intended, often infantalising, as if us poor weak tortured souls couldn’t handle normal speech.

Talk to everyone normally and equally, unless you’ve been informed of ways to accommodate them better, then do it out of respect and kindness, not an assumption.

I need to wake up early (lemmy.world)

All the vibrating alarm clocks I could find do not sync with your phone, and have to be set manually. I thought about getting an Arduino, but then I will have to build the whole thing by myself. The only logical conclusion I could come up with is to get a programable vibrator. But most of them are either very expensive of look...

shneancy,

falling asleep is fine, getting good sleep is hard, waking up with a toy inside your now dry hole is rough

shneancy,

also much more punishing if you do make a mistake. Oh you added too much flour and the consistency is wrong? Well now you gotta add a whole new egg and a bit of everything :)

shneancy,

some people are so very afraid of being anything but perfect they will just lie about things and insist you’re not doing enough to fix a problem with your service

shneancy,

I know it’s not baking baking, but that’s how I ended up with too many crepes recently. The recepie I was using gave me a consistency of pancake batter instead of much more fluid crepe batter, so I added more milk, oh haha a bit too much milk, bit more flour, mmm close, bit more milk, ah perfect. And then I had crepes for breakfast and lunch for 3 days in a row, squeezed in some blasphemy crepe burritors for dinner as well. Not that I’m complaining that much, but the plan was just lunch crepes and a bit left-over for breakfast the next day lol

shneancy,

counterpoint: a disabled child is not a fascist

shneancy,

yeah but chunky milk won’t kill you, in fact it is an ingredient for some wonderful desserts

shneancy,

be the change you want to see in the world! who knows how much time we have before it crumbles

shneancy,

bruh, how is my shit turning to liquid if i have more than half a glass of milk a conspiracy??

shneancy,

they mix audio for cinemas with 5.1 or 7.1 speaker systems. And then they take that version and smoosh it into stereo :) which then comes out sounding absolutely terrible because the mix was simply not made for stereo

shneancy,

conditioning is already a part of many kinks, like discipline, corruption, or hypno

shneancy,

you put a whole two people in a room and you’ll get drama sooner or later. In this regard every place will be the same. At least we more actual people to have drama with, with reddit getting closer and closer to the dead Internet uh, practice (no longer a theory)

shneancy,

counterpoint: life is a one big game and nobody was asked if they want to participate

shneancy,

true lol, not really my metaphor though, it’s rather popular

shneancy,

i only bothered to read the last bit so - stealing from the artists? Ha! that’s words of someone who doesn’t know how the film/TV show industry works. All artists (spare for maybe the actors, depending on their contract) already got paid, maybe they got a bonus for the popularity of the show, but they don’t own the rights to the show and therefore receive fuck all after that.

shneancy,

and also doesn’t care that findom is a common limit for many subs

shneancy,

or

it could be a teen fresh into puberty underestimating their own strenght

shneancy,

i always describe LSD as a drug that puts a mirror to your face so you get a good look at what you see for a solid 6h+ whether you like what you see or not. Plus other things obviously, but for me that’s the main and best feature

shneancy,

me neither hah, obviously when i was told “maybe don’t” i heard “definitely do”, it is rather fun, my brain always comes up with a lot of symbolism for those moments

shneancy,

huh, that’s possibly the most disturbing AI nightmare i’ve seen. I hate this

"Grow up. These are my movies, not yours": George Lucas Won't be Happy How Star Wars Fan Group is Illegally Saving the Original Trilogy (fandomwire.com)

The original trilogy of Star Wars films, spearheaded by George Lucas were critical and commercial successes. However, in 1997 Lucas released the “Special Edition” of the films for the trilogy’s 20th anniversary, which featured extensive changes to the original theatrical cuts....

shneancy,

this is exactly why it’s rare for directors to also have written the script for the movies they direct in the filmmaking world - it’s easy to get married to your idea and fall flat on the execution, because who is going to tell you to stop? The only people that could are producers - but they don’t really care about the writing either, just the money to be made, and if “ehh” writing got George that far then the second Star Wars became a thing he got full immunity from criticism

shneancy,

though I agree that there could be many things wrong with science today. Your examples aren’t the best fit

both asbestos and smoking at first appeared to everybody to be something good. And it for sure wasn’t your anti-vax neighbour who proved they were dangerous because of “toxins” and “5G mind control implants”

non-experts today are at an incredible disadvantage when it comes to science simply because science got really complicated and interconnected. I believe this is also a part of why some people are losing their trust in it, it’s hard to simply trust something you can’t understand yourself
