And now for the Raven Report: they seem to have left us a gift.
“I want to befriend crows,” people say. “I want them to bring me presents!” Well, it’s not all trinkets and five dollar bills, Sharon.

On the gray deck floor lies a desiccated and flattened rat corpse
Yet another view of the horrible rat corpse, all stringy and contorted.

superdilettante,

@LeftistLawyer @violetblue I’ve been informally keeping track of that too. AFAIK I’m still novid, and I’m O-
I saw a study saying that A type is most correlated with infection, but I believe A is also the most common blood type …

superdilettante,

@LeftistLawyer @superdilettante @violetblue my spouse has had it exactly once and he’s also O- . He has largely abandoned precautions and hasn’t tested positive again. I am still masking everywhere. [edited to fix typo]

Paramedic in the family kiboshed my usual bicycling route to the auto repair shop (the one with the bicycle lane), and told me to take the lesser traveled road WITHOUT bicycle lanes (due to slower traffic speeds...the bike lane route is 50mph limit but people frequently at 60mph+). Probably good advice. Hope the upgrade to separated lanes on that road will mitigate that issue somewhat. (although, no spindly traffic barrier will stop a car going 65mph, but it will reduce probability of sideswiping)

superdilettante,

@ai6yr @gretared I’m likewise curious, specifically about the ‘tables in front of handicapped parking spaces’ situation. And how does your EMT feel about parklets, hazard-wise?

superdilettante, to novid

buddies, your thoughts:

I’ve managed to avoid COVID so far and today, while away for the holiday, learned my friend cat sitting just tested positive. She’s offered to limit her visits and mask while in the house, and wanted to know what my comfort level was with her feeding the cats the same day we return.

I said I thought that as long as she masks and washes her hands, I feel confident that the risk is minimal to us when we return. Especially considering we’ll just have gotten off an airplane where fewer than half of the luxurious hackers cover their coughs (or their faces).

But does anyone here have any thoughts? Thanks so much.

For any San Francisco or Bay Area residents interested in obtaining their license, the SFFD NERT office will be hosting a ham cram on January 20. Don’t snooze if you’re interested in this; it was just announced and slots are already filling up fast. Link: https://ham.study/sessions/65248055b07960e8091a3c0a/1

Hmm, earthquake below SFO Terminal 2, gate 52. M3.9 (Update: apparently this is now gate D5 -- old map!)

@ai6yr definitely felt it in southeastern sf.

Why no warning that time, I wonder?

Someone stuck a "trash bin cleaning service" ad on my trash can today. I used to wonder "who cares what someone's trash can smells like--it's a TRASH CAN!" until talking to all of my relatives over the age of 65.

superdilettante,

@ai6yr some of my neighbors seem to refuse to compost. It does get a bit fragrant close to pickup day, but usually a rinse afterward takes care of it. Some people spend a lot of time obsessing over their garages, though; maybe they can’t stand the smell.

Walking through several busy airport terminals yesterday filled with coughing and sneezing people, and every time I saw someone with an mask (maybe 1 in every 250 people) I thought to myself: wow, that is another smart and independent thinker!

superdilettante,

@ai6yr I completely agree. And based on the way I’ve lived most of my life, to try to “fit in” in this regard would be inconsistent with my beliefs.

I started a thing! a new ritual? a project?

I borrow a lot of books from the library after placing a hold, so even though I pick them up at my home library, they’re originally from other branch libraries in the @sfpl system.

so going forward, I’m going to start returning them to their branch libraries of origin until I’ve visited all the different locations.

today: returning Hernán Díaz’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Trust to the Excelsior branch. It’s the best thing I’ve read this year.

@bookstodon

superdilettante,

@eniatitova @sfpl @bookstodon I love this idea; this one’s on my holds list too.

superdilettante,

@eniatitova @bookstodon I really enjoyed Time’s Mouth. I stalled out of her previous novel, California, and am thinking of revisiting it. Have you read that one?
