Blessed Sunday 🕊

God be with you 🙏🏿

superheroine,

@religion

i am having a great Sunday. the Spirit was with us in church today. and the message spoke to me. i will share some key points.

as we live not only for ourselves, but to be the hands and feet of God. to be vessels of the Spirit. we live to serve and help build eternal community. we must give of ourselves, put others before our self interests, and trust God to provide.

Verses in 2 Nephi 12 really speaks to this and to me. And, personally, have found their message to be true.

36 The Divine says “I will teach humanity one line at a time, one concept at a time, and little by little. 37 Those who listen to my concepts and listen to my advice will be blessed and gain wisdom. 38 Those that understand my teachings will be given more to learn. Those that say ‘we have learned enough’ will forget what they have already been taught. (BoM :PPT)

more from 2 Nephi 12 (LDS 2 Nephi 28-33)

56 Don’t you realize that I created all of humanity, and that I remember those who are upon the isles of the sea? Don’t you realize that I rule in the Heavens above and the earth beneath? 57 Don’t you realize that I speak to all of humanity? 58 Why do you complain that you can read more of what I have to say? 59 Don’t you realize that when different people’s scriptures agree it shows you that I speak to them both? (BoM: PPT)

superheroine,

@religion
60 I teach the same things to all people. 61 When two groups of people come together their scriptures will come together as well. 62 I do this so I can prove that I was the same yesterday, am the same today, and will be the same forever. I teach people the truth when I want to. 63 You shouldn’t assume that just because I have spoken to one people that I can’t speak to another. My work is not done yet, and it won't be finished till humanity is finished, and even then it won’t truly end

superheroine,

@religion

I believe that God is with us. And God is bigger than , bigger than , bigger than Abrahamic faith. None of us may claim exclusive or preferential access Divine Inspiration. And I am so thankful for that. I am blessed by learning from others and sharing myself with them.

These things are very significant to my faith and how I connect with God in my life.

i have been asked to give a sermon and this time i am ready :)

i have been assigned the parable of the fig tree in the book of Luke in the bible, and the parable of the olive tree from the book of Jacob in the book of Mormon.

i have some foundational ideas. will expound upon them later.

superheroine,

i have skipped around the Book of Mormon and haven't read Jacob yet. Alma is the first book i read, then I studied Ether in group study, then I read 1st 2nd and 3rd Nephi. and some of Mosiah and some of Helaman.

i am starting on Jacob now though, in my straight read through.

i am familiar with the story of the Olive tree and modern interpretations of it.

superheroine,

@religion

The parable of the Fig tree , I will be using as a metaphor for the Church.

Luke 13: 6-9 reads:

6 Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any. 7 So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?

superheroine,

@religion

8 “‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it. 9 If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’

seeing the fig tree as the church and the gardener (and the owner of the vineyard) as Christians

my idea here is we must nurture, and improve the Church to have it bear good fruit and be acceptable unto God and beneficial to our communities.

superheroine,

@religion

as well as that we must take an active role in making the Church and the community (and in our specific case the Movement/ , hence pulling in the Book of Jacob) instead of just waiting in expectance for fruit and then cutting it down before trying to make it a healthier/more fruitful place.

God will help us, but i don't think God will do it for us. we have agency and must use it and take action. this goes for a lot of things

superheroine,

@religion

I will get into the part on the Book of Jacob in the after further study.

for right now, i know that the gathering and scattering of israel is compared to dissemination of the tame olive tree through planting of young branches and graphing the daughter branches back to the original tree. i will be using the metaphor to talk about the branches of the Restoration and how we can come together and engage peacefully, lovingly, and ecumenically. and why that's important

superheroine,

@religion

there is a lot more to that story that i will have to bring together (like the addition of wild branches to the tree and pruning of the wild branches that produced bitter fruit) so these are just initial thoughts.

superheroine, to religiousstudies

@religiousstudies

i just learned TCoJCoL-dS has a completely different "Rejoice, Ye Saints of Latter Days" hymn.

in fact, i think they may be completely unrelated songs with the same title. the one we sing in church is just credited to Emma Hale Smith's "Sacred Hymns". no word on who wrote it. Mother Emma seems to have not cited sources lol.

the brighamite one has a credited writer & was composed in 1910, decades after the schism.

the josephite one is in the 1841 hymnal, before the schism.

superheroine,

@religiousstudies

there may be an interesting piece of history in there.

idk if there really is, or if its completely coincidental, but i certainly can dig through some old hymnals.

coincidental because it simply could have been on the cutting block for the next brighamite hymnal, and later on someone wrote another hymn with the same name. hymnals change all the time.

i need to stress less. and i know that's mostly up to me.

getting back on birth control would help.

but i can be quite competent at chilling myself out, but i am more shutting down right now than anything.

superheroine,

@religion

i take my meds & go to weekly therapy but what i haven't done is

ask. Heavenly. Father.

so i will pause. create a prayer here. then bring it to God

if you have a moment to spare today, i'd appreciate a prayer and i'd pray for you too

even if you're not religious, for some it can be helpful to know people care about you, want to listen to your concerns, really hear you out, & then bless you in a way they hold sacred.

superheroine,

@religion

i really appreciate my friend who recites Surahs for me for healing. diffrnt tradition, same sincere feeling of love and (imo) the Holy Spirit. when i wasn't a believer, my grandma's prayers for me were significant

i think it's bc the prayers are sincere and are accompanied by other action. i think the action of active listening is integral to praying for another

so my offer and ask aren't limited to christians, for those who feel similarly

superheroine,

@religion

Merciful Heavenly Father, I ask you for help & for strength. the strength to do the things i know need to be done. the strength to make choices that reduce my stress instead of increase it

Please give me the wisdom needed to serve others & show our compassion to them while also having compassion for myself. to let myself be open the compassion that you show me daily, through direct means and through those harnessing that Divine spark you grant us all.

superheroine,

@religion

Christ, please be my companion, to be with me, walk beside me & guide me in the right directions at this overwhelming time in my life.

you are my steadfast older brother, with me all the way, who does a good job of reminding me what is truly important: when i stop & take time to listen to you, my companions, your prophets, my mutuals, & myself. i ask your blessings upon each of the people i have encountered, physically & spiritually, on my journey

superheroine,

@religion

Mother God, thank you for your love. I am often too afraid to feel it directly, but when i brave the chance and do, i know you are with me. How you embrace me, strengthen me, and still hold me to the things must do. Things of importance that build supports, reconciles families, brings healing, builds Zion, your peaceable kingdom. your peaceable can be build where ever we are. thank you for giving me that yo wake up to each morning. a Divine purpose.

superheroine,

@religion

Thank you for the courage that it took for me to get this far. thank your for the beautiful humans that foster that in me, please bless them, and i will try, with your help, to be a blessing to them. a part of your Divine plan.

in the name of your beloved son, Jesus Christ, who is our compassionate redeemer, amen.

wait after 9 pm to call someone

superheroine,

@andrewfeeney

maybe my friends are old fashioned but we definitely call each other.

but i will say calls are usually scheduled or at least agreed upon. sending a text asking to have a phone call.

and the internet isn't always that great around here so that may play a role.
