@tanoshimi OMG you MUST watch the first movie at least, "Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl". It's IMO the best part of the series. It covers two volumes of the novels (where the season of anime covered 5 volumes). Note that you may not be able to stream it anywhere anymore, even for money, and may need to resort to downloading it. If you have trouble finding a copy let me know and I can get you access to mine.
OVA stands for "original video animation" and typically refers to stuff that isn't part of a season, but also isn't a full length movie. I don't know if you can find them online yet because they are fairly recent.
@tanoshimi oh it's definitely not on the major services, that much much I'm sure of. It was on its own dedicated site originally, and you had to pay to watch it. But I'm pretty sure that doesn't exist anymore and it's only available on disc in Japan.
Give me a few minutes and I'll DM you a link you can use to download it to your PC
Took my Note 9 out of the drawer after two months. Wanted to update the apps and get some nostalgic feel again. The battery was at 75% still and not drained like my old iPhones.
I miss this phone. I disabled all Google services and only installed open source apps. Many samsung apps are disabled or in a folder not being used.
There are no OS updates but I don't install much apps. The screen is still beautiful on this phone too.
Started using Phanpy tonight on it as a PWA. I've tested it on a Pixel 7, IPhone 14 Pro Max and this Note 9. Notifications seemed to work instantly compared to the other phones.
@tanoshimi I hadn't checked out Phanpy before. I really dig it! I'm currently tinkering with getting a third-party lemmy frontend running self-hosted, but I might look at creating phanpy.urusai.social after that :D
@tanoshimi omggggggg it is one of my absolute favorites!! I'm kinda jealous you get to experience it for the first time haha. So good that I switched to the novels for the content that hasn't been animated yet.
Don't miss the movie, or the two OVAs that JUST left USA theaters a few weeks ago.
@tanoshimi yesssss. I love that they have several different versions of it with the different female VAs singing, based on which story arc the episode is from
@tanoshimi The thing that really bugs me about this is that I don't want half of the things in the Mega Fan tier, just the extra simultaneous streams. Like, don't make me pay for shit I don't want. Let me stream to multiple devices for $1 more, plz and thanks.
Suzame finally showed up on Netflix and I watched it. I've been humming the main tune for a year now and finally enjoyed this movie. I liked the animation and the story so much.
I also watched My Happy Marriage and truly enjoyed that series. I'm trying to open my mind to other series after watching Naruto, One Punch Man, One Piece, Demon Slayer and other popular series.
@tanoshimi So, having read that, I want your opinion:
What do you think of the relationship between Suzume and daijin? Particularly, what does her changing feelings towards daijin over the course of the movie tell us? And what do you make of Suzume replacing daijin as the keystone with Souta, only to realize how badly she wants Souta in her life and getting daijin to become the keystone again?
My interpretation, so far: daijin is one of the anchors in Suzume's life that defines her identity and helps keep her grief contained. I think the worm is grief and the keystones are the things that are the main pillars of our identity, keeping us from giving in to grief and destroying the world around us. When she tries to make Souta her identity, she winds up losing him; Souta can't replace her mother. And the grief left my her mother is what make her try to fill that hole in get heart with Souta himself. But when she accepts her loss, she gets Souta back.
