then_three_more,

That doesn’t make much sense. ICE vehicles have got so quiet, especially at low speeds, that most of the noise is tyre noise.

There were far fewer models of electric and and h-ev cars being available during the time of they’ve taken their data from (7 to 11 years ago now) than ICE and even compared to how many there are now. Therefore it’s entirely possible that an issue with a particular model (for example visibility issues caused by a pillar blindspots) could skew the results.

It would be interesting to see if they can get the same results with 2019-2024 data.

then_three_more,

I think you’re thinking about it at a very basic level. In a world where more citizens of the allies refused military service more citizens of the axis powers would have also. Likely leading to the same overall result, but with a far lower death toll.

then_three_more,

Oh, right, I had forgotten, cultural movements in one culture automatically take root simultaneously in others regardless of geographical or ideological distance

That’s actually a good point.

What

Simple maths. Less people fighting is less people killing and dieing.

then_three_more,

If you’re making up the world, for sure

I thought that was the point of a hypothetical.

then_three_more,

But in the hypothetical where both the axis powers and the allies have less personnel there wouldn’t be as many pilots navigators etc for those bombers.

Actually in your example the defending forces come out on top, even if the level of conscientious objection wasn’t symmetrical. A ww2 era bomber required several crew members (pilot, co pilot, radio operator, navigator) whereas fighters just needed one person.

So in the hypothetical we have both sides far less capable of doing things like dropping so many bombs on Desden that it caused one of the only firestorms created without the use of Nukes.

then_three_more,

Tories in a nutshell, 25 days of slave labour for the young, tax breaks for the old.

then_three_more,

Poverty causes stress. Stress causes erectile issues.

then_three_more,

A rdo in the week can be pretty nice now and then you be fair.

then_three_more,

Don’t the armed forces themselves dislike conscription? Flooding in loads of kids who resent being there and are only popping in for a year can’t be good for a professional fighting force.

then_three_more,

Obvious troll is obvious.

then_three_more,

Good point. It makes it even more hot air. If managed to win and tried to bring it in I can see push back not just from those that would be called to but also from the civil and armed forces that it affects. It’s pulling resources away from them doing their actual jobs to childmind kids who would rather be anywhere else for 25 days.

then_three_more,

He misheard symptoms as Simpsons because of the hearing loss.

then_three_more,

OK you’re gonna have to explain how you got to that. I actually can’t work it out.

then_three_more,

Oh I got whooshed.

then_three_more,

Lol BBC liberal media. They have a massive Tory bias.

then_three_more,

It’s not just that. As government they have influence over who runs the BBC. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_Board

then_three_more,

It’ll be more subtle than that. As current members of the BBC board leave their replacements will be appointed under “recommendation” of the new secretary of state. Hardly an a political way of doing things.

Still, at least we just do it for one media organisation. Doing it for something like judges could be really really dangerous.

then_three_more,

In the interests of checks and balances it’s worth noting that the Secretary of State should only recommend from a list of people provided by the Privy Council.

Ah that’s OK then, its not like the privy council is “mainly senior politicians who are current or former members of either the House of Commons or the House of Lords”.

then_three_more,

So we keep the Tory bias until they no longer make up majority of both the commons and the lords. Because if you have a pool of people to pull from and most of them are Tories you’re likely to end up with a Tory.

Victim reports his father missing. Police instead interrogated him for 17 hours, said they killed his dog, and withheld his meds from the victim. Victim tried to commit suicide in the room. (lemmy.world)

At one point during the interrogation, the investigators even threatened to have his pet Labrador Retriever, Margosha, euthanized as a stray, and brought the dog into the room so he could say goodbye. “OK? Your dog’s now gone, forget about it,” said an investigator....

then_three_more,

Anyone who works for that police department should get asked about it when testifying. That kind of behaviour doesn’t come out of thin air. It’ll be a product of organisational culture and will be systemic.

then_three_more,

I know it’s good in this instance that Biden is likely to win because he can out spend the orange one, but I still find it crazy that your politics is just about who has the deepest pockets. Spending limits are a thing for a reason.
