Hey @timonsku did you ever root or do anything with your Spotify Car Thing? I still have one in the box, but have not yet tried.
Since Spotify is effectively remotely bricking every single one of these devices it ever sold (which really should be illegal) it sure would be nice if they'd completely open-source it. https://mastodon.social/@timonsku/109445147492236891
Given that Mastodon now has an ex Twitter founder board member and Bluesky does not.
Are we being consequential and move over to Bluesky or was that reason against Bluesky and ATP just a petty argument because of "not invented here" syndrome?
Both are open source solutions and from a technical perspective I think ATproto is the much better designed system for a decentralized social network.
Self hosting for yourself is actually viable on ATproto without being a hobby SysAdmin.
@danielkrah You mean things like portable accounts that Mastodon and ActivityPub has not been able to implement for over 8 years?
Bluesky the app also != ATProto
@mcc oh I'm aware, my post is extremly snarky because the very unproductive overly emotional discussion was annoying me a lot in the past and that was one of the primary arguments of a vague "they can't be trusted"
to be clear I think the argument was dumb and don't think anyone should leave because of some board member or disregard an open technology because of it.
Though maybe you can reflect on that if it was your knee jerk reaction about ATP and can engage with it on a more rational level because it does have a lot to offer that is impossible to implement in what is ActivityPub atm.
ActivityPub as designed work best as an RSS replacement with potential engagement imo
ATProto is also not finished, it wouldn't really make sense to jump on it right now but it is getting quite a bit closer and at a more rapid pace to being adopted more widely and being adopted without needing Bluesky server involvement.
I think the pivot point would be when private data is implemented in the protocol.
It does not hurt to familiarize yourself with what ATProto does differently in the meantime: https://atproto.com/guides/overview
The whole issue with flaky instances is basically non-existent.
We've got this cheap egg cooker that plays the loudest, most terrifying alarm you've ever heard when it's done cooking. My wife requested that I make it "less aggressive" so I hacked it into the most gentle egg cooker of ALL TIME
@MLE_online feels like they just repurposed hardware from some old early digital alarm clocks lol
Good sound to wake you up, bad sound to tell you about your egg being ready.
Little one day build for a water timer to fill up the irrigation water tank and not have it overflow when I forget about it.
Using a solenoid valve and some random mosfet time controller module from Amazon.
It says POOP when you turn it on, which I think is great.
