I have officially reached the "I need a spreadsheet to track everything" phase of hobby-ing with

EDIT: for anyone else who has/is looking into a fountain pen spreadsheat, check out fpc.ink / fountainpencompanion.com. SUPER useful tool and very well made.

@paradoxmo @timelordiroh thanks. On holiday this week, so I am a bit slow at picking these up. So yes, if you need to keep track of pens, inks, and what you’ve used (and more) that’s the best place to go to.

I had the feeling that the Asvine V126 has a bit of a design flaw in it's vac filler. The rubber ring seems to prevent ink to proper flow to the nib. Or maybe that big air bubble at that place just annoys me. 😉 Anyway, that gasket is easily removed with tweezers (I did it while the pens were inked, too. 🤪) and now it's more like a Japanese eyedropper (think Opus 88) than a vac filler. But it works much better, I think!

Sometimes I am a completionist. Here are all six color/finish variants of the Asvine V126. All with an off brand nib, though. 🤣

When you go to the pottery class with one of the kids, you OF COURSE make a tray for your inked up fountain pens.

Currently watching this video about the Pilot Iroshizuku ink line: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNHetXuzOhQ

I already own a bottle of Kon-peki and I am probably going for Ku-jaku and Chiku-rin next.

I finally broke down (due to a surprise bonus) and got that Pilot Custom 823 I had been eyeing. No more Asvine V126s to make up for that pen, I guess!

It will be a surprise to no one that the Pilot is miles better than the Asvine. That one is a solid pen with a boring nib. The Pilot is superb in any way.

The only thing where the Asvine is better is when it comes to cleaning. Being able to unscrew the section is really nice.

In this episode of we discuss the new Lamy releases (including outdated information about Dark Lilac), throwing out Noodler's ink, private chefs, and taking a (planned!) hiatus.

Available at https://www.yvgenii.com/2guys0planners/055 (or in any podcasting app).

Comparison of the new and old Lamy Dark Lilac inks. The base color is a match, but the sheen is different. The original one has a distinct gold sheen, whereas the new one has a green sheen.

Recording in a few hours. We’ll definitely touch on Lamy Dark Lilac and me emptying ink samples. Anything else?

of the day:
What is the pen you have in your hand right now, or the last one you used? What’s your opinion of the pen?

ujh,
@ujh@masto.ai avatar

@jezlyn @paradoxmo @Autumn the aftermarket flex mods that fpnibs.com does are also pretty good and obviously flexier than the nibs they’re based on.

This is the Hongdian N10, because apparently everyone needs a pen with a no. 8 nib these days in their lineup. Piston filler and ebonite feed. Really not a bad pen, but maybe a bit on the light side.

Four out of the five colour ways of the Asvine V126 should be enough right? Until they come out with another colour, of course. (The one I a missing is just matte transparent).

I am enjoying the Asvine V126 a lot, these days. Great form factor (think Pilot Custom 823), can be used like an eyedropper (big plus when you’re using ink samples), writes nicely, nibs can be switched easily.

I am trying to pace myself and only buy one colour a week. 🤣

@paradoxmo they’re all over the place. The N23 came out earlier. That is the “year of the rabbit” pen. I guess for the year? The dragon pens are the N24 and A24. 🤣

    @pixiecata 5 pens is the sweet spot for me, too. Not too many so they don't last for months, but also enough to make it interesting.

    ujh, to fountainpens
    @ujh@masto.ai avatar

    In early 2023 I started to focus on using up all the samples I have accumulated over the years. I ended up finishing 28. At that rate it will take me another 4.5 years to finish them all. And then there’s all the full bottles. 🤪 But it certainly is a fun process to try out essentially random colours.

    Followup on getting a new nib for the Stella Ideal. I was using an FPR nib before and it really just wouldn’t go in— even though it did write properly if I held the nib in place. I suddenly had the idea this morning to try a Nemosine nib. Just did it and the collar did go on! A bit crooked, but it writes fine, wrote a page and seems OK so far. I’m going to knock it out and get the alignment to be a bit better tomorrow. #vintage #fountainpens

    @paradoxmo Great to see that pen resurrected! The other way round, vintage nibs from otherwise broken pens, is also fun.
