> It doesn't matter if I make a dozen "how to disable recall" tutorials. The second YOUR data shows up on someone ELSE'S screen, it's in THEIR recall database.

this has nothing to do with microsoft recall! anybody you send stuff to can have it compromised. you message your high school friend, she gets caught at a protest, now cops have all that data

you can never control the data you give to somebody else, recall or not

whitequark,
@whitequark@mastodon.social avatar

i get that recall is a wake-up call for many people about this, but please use your reasoning abilities?

half the queer people you talk to might have a secret receipts folder they put dirt on you in so they can complain about you later

this should be a part of your threat model already

whitequark,
@whitequark@mastodon.social avatar

@dequbed i didn't say "friends" <.<

whitequark,
@whitequark@mastodon.social avatar

@dequbed

  • i don't know who might be doing that or not
  • i know some are doing it
  • therefore i must assume everyone does, and anything i say may be used against me later

this isn't normal?

Just witnessed someone join a call, stay silent for 30 minutes, and then wave bye.

There were like, 8 people on that call.

https://doc.rust-lang.org/std/net/struct.TcpStream.html#method.linger SO_LINGER "is a nightly-only experimental API"

Python has a better standard library if you want to write real backends (microbenchmarking on localhost is a different story).

whitequark,
@whitequark@mastodon.social avatar

@pkhuong there is an open API design question, this is reasonable

Python does not provide anywhere near the same stability guarantee

honest opinion: people that need constant-time code should not be using a general-purpose programming language. emit assembly or write your own DSL https://fosstodon.org/@simo5/112554241913244159

I don’t get it. https://github.com/actions/create-release

why would they archive this. they provide an actions platform, they provide the API, why aren’t they maintaining official ways to interact with it.

just discovered this is archived and like, ok sure let me use a community action instead.

I’m sure I can trust community members with privileged API access. That’s definitely not a case where I’d really want an official, approved action where I can feel comfortable handing it a token with write access. Definitely /s.

@hexylena I think there's an alternative way to do it, remind me when im on the PC

which is why i'll build my own microsoft recall

it's so weird to me that my projects are well known because to me like... i build them to the lowest standard of quality i can bear to make public

glasgow was supposed to be a castellated pad 'stamp' style ft2232 replacement which just had an ice40up5k and some ldos, as a low-cost thing you put on your board to program a bigger fpga

then scope creep happened and i attempted to solve every newly acquired task properly

whitequark,
@whitequark@mastodon.social avatar

like, how can you ship a developer tool that breaks when you try to use it to do something else? i can't, so i did my best to build one that doesn't break

it involved coming up with https://yowasp.org and adding a bunch of hardware bits to make it robust to most disturbances

whitequark,
@whitequark@mastodon.social avatar

@ids1024 yes. however the feedback i get is that glasgow has an unparalleled degree of quality

Heeeck I dunno if I'll be able to test it before the stream but I think I just got .xm/mod tracker file playback working on the Analogue Pocket

Screenshot is highly significant to me but it is complicated to explain why this is proof I can run it on the Pocket

GtkWave feels in a whole bunch of ways like a fossil of some earlier era of UI design, which partially means a bunch of minor frustrations but on the bright side means every time I boot it I get to look at this intro box
