TIL Gradius 3 SNES has secret bonus levels (completing most of these skips the level boss)

Also TIL most of the bosses are on a timer, so you can "beat" a boss by just surviving until the time's up! >:o(

Fortunately it's more fun fighting the bosses legit. Unfortunately, there's no cheater bar for Lousy Level 7 (the <reverb>AUTO-SCROLL LEVEL FROM HELL</reverb>)

I'm seeing these 2-wheel scooter things that are somehow KEEPING UP WITH CAR TRAFFIC

In USA, these "slow" vehicles have a 25mph cap on their speed, but it's clear that some modify their e-scooter things to go much faster

And of course they wear absolutely no helmet or proper clothing, so they'll be street pizza after they invariably make a mistake

No surprises here...

My MeLe fanless mini PC (this thing is IMPOSSIBLY tiny with 16GB RAM and N100 CPU and can pretty much do what any standard OA PC can even if it's hobbled with Windows 11) is STONE-cold when running LMDE, which I installed on the NVME drive that was shipped as a "New volume"

It's too hot to touch when it runs Windows 11, which shipped on the eMMC.

Look you stupid bastard... if you're going to make the product pay-only, just MAKE the thing pay-only and let people replace VMware with Proxmox with confidence.

questions:

  • do I get access to my encrypted drives, or is the unlock key even a secret from me?

  • it encrypts even partitions UNKNOWN to the system? So my LUKS drive with Linux will be encrypted twice?

I've found that I just don't use my iPad anymore except as a Flight Simulator accessory.

I don't take it on trips, because my MacBook Air is light enough and waaaaay more functional.

The only thing I miss from it is the built-in cellular connectivity, which Apple doesn't put in the laptops still (this is widely rumored to be because Qualcomm would charge them more for the modems on a laptop form factor)

yakkoj,
@yakkoj@fosstodon.org avatar

@brooke If Macbook Air had cellular, I'd just buy one of those instead of iPad. It comes with a KEYBOARD and a WORKING trackpad (instead of a palm detector, like most other laptops)

yakkoj,
@yakkoj@fosstodon.org avatar

@brooke that worked for my 2012 Macbook Air. Runs Debian 12 great even though it has 4GB RAM.

>knock at door.

Look if you're going to ignore the button to ring the doorbell (and that button is LIT and I know the light works!), then pardon me if I don't bother answering the door.

(it's probably pest control anyway)

yakkoj,
@yakkoj@fosstodon.org avatar

oh and also don't forget I don't answer the door in my underwear

(and yes, it was pest control; I can tell by the noises going on outside now ;o)

Wow, that I can run this video at 3x and STILL understand it is amazing

(it's a "talking head" kind of video, so doing the speedrunning of it is a perfect use of speed up)

Look Akamai... if you refuse to let me reboot my Linode via the API (the "proper" way to reboot a Linode without it squawking at me), I'm just going to use "reboot"

(OK, they were having problems with API access; I was getting the 502 and just needed my machine restarted ;o)

yakkoj,
@yakkoj@fosstodon.org avatar

it definitely did not help that my lish access was unavailable. I usually console in and run the shell script to update the API thing and then call it to reboot

Wow... "cashless tolling" is going to go really well.

I have email from KTAG going on about how image-based transactions will be charged more than transponder transactions

So those who don't have a compatible transponder will roll through and have to pay twice what I do JUST because they paid on-road before now. :o(

Got NextDNS working via Unbound on OPNsense (DoT).

This is progress. I won't need to use dnscrypt-proxy going forward.

It raises the question, though: what about internal hosts? Until now, those were going to be handled by dnsmasq and /etc/hosts, but I had to disable dnsmasq to make Unbound talk...

Pretty sure there's some way to get Unbound to both be the nameserver for all external hosts while serving up an internal zone...

yakkoj,
@yakkoj@fosstodon.org avatar

I really like NextDNS, btw. Up until now, I was using NextDNS just for its DoH function.

I tried setting up a new pi-hole yesterday, but it wouldn't answer any of the queries that came through it! It was receiving them from VLANs, but NO answer.

So now it's time to test NextDNS's pi-hole-like function.

yakkoj,
@yakkoj@fosstodon.org avatar

The pi-hole problem was because it's configured to only respond to "local" networks by default, and how DARE I have VLANs

So after changing it to only bind to eth0, the queries started getting answers back!

Still going to try using NextDNS, though; still want the crypted DNS
