Ok the collection between me and Munchkin is down to 4 guitars, 3 basses, 6 ukuleles, a mandolin, a melodica, a piano, a MIDI keyboard controller, a few amps, parts to build 3 more guitars and I am not looking forward to moving it all a thousand miles. Gear acquisition syndrome is a real disease that was exacerbated by the pandemic but little discussed by the medical community at large.
@kissane CJ were always such an interesting entity (I still remember when Kurt Loder did a short segment on them during peak MTV, and I was kind of piqued over their take on "Sweet Jane, but I think the last album I had/have of theirs is from the 90s (Pale Sun, Crescent Moon) but I know they've been at it since....I feel a rabbit hole approaching.
"#USENET, or NetNews, is a text-only social discussions forum, or rather a set of a great many forums, called "newsgroups," carried by multiple servers around the world. Although the original developers closed down their instance in 2010, that was just one server out of hundreds, and many are still running just fine. It never went away – it's still alive, you can get on it for free, and there is a choice of client apps for most OSes to help you navigate."
@johnmark@kevbob ...most of it was verboten for me too (e.g. We had Hansen's soda at home, not Coke or Pepsi...which may be why I find La Croix a criminal offense)
I just realized that by high-school I absolutely loathed most fast food because I liked "real" food a lot more.
I think the 4th track now has a shape I'm happy with.
I still need the money to pay a couple of musicians I want for specific parts (wind, cello and bass)and also one track I'm collaborating with a long time friend but I don't know how he's getting on (we're both very reclusive by nature).
Anyway, I'm happy with progress so far which probably means I'll be riddled with self doubt and hatred tomorrow...
Reddit's CEO is now comparing the people who've done the most to make the site popular to "landed gentry" -- demonstrating that he's both over-the-top arrogant and ignorant.
He's also threatening to change the rules of the site to make it easier to remove moderators. Yes, that'll definitely encourage more people to build communities there.
@dangillmor Spez went from a fairly even-handed sensible choice when he came back in 2015 to spending the last couple of years making himself out to be a milquetoast version of Andreessen/Musk/Rabois, themselves already quite tasteless and tone-deaf. These people are making themselves rich while breaking the spine of the industry itself.
