Which, genuinely, if it was cheap I wouldn't care about. If it had no wifi or heated seats, no touchscreen or self driving. If it was just a cheapass vehicle for point a to point b and back, I would not mock it. It would have a place in the world and it would fulfill a purpose.

But currently it's place in the world is for the people who are unable to touch Elon Musk, but want to caress his face or be stepped on in a masochistic fashion by him. This truck is as close as they can get.

I mean, in the era of VHS this won't work because ultimately you're fast forwarding and rewinding. So you're gonna watch it anyway. but in the digital era I thought this would be what any Police officer did?

Like... they're not even gonna spend 10 minutes on a theft?

Dukeofdummies,

I know but if they were smart they'd say they're gonna take an hour to do it, find the footage in 10 minutes and goof off another 50.

Pull a Scotty, then you're productive and lazy. It's just disappointing they can't even procrastinate properly. I feel bad.

Admittedly, there is no government housing for politicians, which means either buying renting in washington DC (not cheap) in addition to your home in your own state, or moving entirely to Washington DC for a position you may lose in 4 years.

The entire job seems to be closed out to everyone but millionaires.

In another world with my smartphone

... He barely used the smartphone, he just scrolls with it in the credits and occasionally uses it and his OP protagonist powers to just melt things. I was really hoping it wasn't just a "I am a god" power trip anime but it was one of the worst ones I ever saw.

Honestly they only gave him a smartphone so that they could give it a unique title. Then they proceed to forget they gave it to him.

right?

I remember starting to read Isekai Vending Machine solely because I thought it was going to be garbage but they fully commit to "nah this guy is a vending machine". It was way better than anticipated. I hate it when the protagonist is never in danger and just has to sneeze to get out of things, but a protagonist that can't move and uses the only thing keeping him alive to upgrade and output a shield? That's how you make something interesting.

How it ever got an anime is beyond me.

It's because bioware made 1 and 2. And they did it pretty well. A competing studio made 3 and whupped them

What is white hydrogen? Scientists say the clean-energy gas could save the world. (www.businessinsider.com)

Hydrogen power is an exciting form of clean energy. But hydrogen typically needed to be produced in a lab using energy-intensive methods. White hydrogen, a newly identified hydrogen source, could eliminate the need for lab production.

... I mean it wouldn't imbalance C02 but you would be adding water. At scale that could be just as bad.

Carbon neutral, yes, but water positive.

Dukeofdummies,

"at scale" it could be just as bad. C02 isn't poisonous the big problem we're dealing with is we're putting C02 from the ground in oil and coal and putting it into the air. We've been adding C02 that was NOT in the environment into the environment.

Yeah some water isn't a bad thing, but if all of a sudden we're adding from sources outside of the water cycle a LOT more water into the atmosphere you've got increased clouds, increased weather patterns, All of a sudden the inland portions of continents can start dumping as much water into the air as a warm ocean, that can DEFINITELY be a problem.

If you imagine the old timey beds the 7 dwarves slept in in snow white, they had their names on the foot board of the bed and the headboard of the bed was on the other side of the bed by their head.

Dukeofdummies,
Dukeofdummies avatar

Honestly they seem out of fashion nowadays. It's one more thing to move when you move, it cost a lot for very little, most people lack a tool set to attach it to the bedframe.

While this looks cool, my phone can't actually scan any of these. Anybody else have any luck?

well I feel like an idiot. I always credited Duke Nukem for that line.

Dukeofdummies,

right? they're pretty impressive. Although the cat one I saw was definitely AI made with all the weird limbs of the cats.

Earplugs can handle it even better. I originally bought them because I work in AV but it's really nice to be able to just crank down all the audio in the world. A decent set of acoustic earplugs can be bought for 8 bucks at a guitar center. I highly recommend acoustic because they don't make everything sound muffled, just quieter. If you find it helpful then you can shell out for something a bit nicer.

Even if you're not autistic, it helps drown out the noise to hear people in a bar, it protects your hearing, and really does help with feelings of being overwhelmed. Doesn't FIX it, but it does help.

What's your favorite Enigma / Riddle / Sentence Puzzle?

Tomorrow is a big event at my university. I’d like to make a fun thing where the people of the Board Game society I am in can try to find me for a riddle, kind of a Where is Waldo in a place where there is a crap tone of people to find the NPC that’ll give them a Riddle (Maybe something to win? No idea how I could do that...

What is the beginning of eternity, the end of time, the beginning of every end, and the end of every place?

E, it's a really mean one when delivered verbally

I always use edge whenever I'm making a public presentation with a computer I use. Simply because I never use it. Then autocomplete won't embarrass me if we look something up.

Dukeofdummies,

I'd buy that. I've had amazing vegan and vegetarian chilis from cans, but never anything of the same quality from something with meat.

Dukeofdummies,

I mean, sure, but what is the point of legs unless you're using stairs, ladders, or uneven terrain?

Make its bottom half a forklift design. It gets more height variance and it's simpler to maintain and build. The tech ain't here yet.

Am I the only chaotic neutral here? I code on the right and do everything else on the left.

Elmo's world

huh, interesting. Gotta say I had less hope for this than I did for Cowboy Beebop. (which also wasn't much, but I digress)

Maybe I give it a shot... and take a shot before it starts...

  • A house
-- Just purchased, closing is closing in soon.
  • two cars
-- completely mandatory. We couldn't possibly bus, we have two used cars approaching two decades old and we're dreading the day they croak.
  • a healthy relationship
    -- married in July
  • a career
-- For me, finally started the career I wanted two years ago, after a decade of trying to become a programmer I finally am. Wife might be in a career now, she's not quite sure. She's happier where she is than Target, but that's a low bar.
  • livable wage
-- livable with the ability to go on vacations (mostly anime and comic conventions)
  • 2.5 kids
-- don't want them at the moment.
  • a dog
    -- ... two cats

I do NOT in any way feel like I've earned this. I have been saving to buy a house EVER SINCE I paid off my student loans. I dumped all my money for YEARS to get that debt off of my books and after I did, I immediately started saving. Didn't even change my living habits because they were habits at that point. I didn't even have a GF at the time. I just knew that I wanted to be ahead, because I knew that it was going to be a slog when I was finally ready to buy a home. Just like it was a slog to get into my career, just like it was a slog. I wanted to be AHEAD I wanted a good home. And after all that effort I got...

half a duplex for $305,000... Cheapest we could find if you don't count badrealestate suggestions on lemmy.

All that effort and I barely have a home. barely. We could've taken a larger loan but, shit happens. We could've been laid off, One of our cars could've needed to be replaced, We could've been disabled, We could've had our identity stolen, We could've been scammed, We could've been robbed, We could've come across a cop who didn't like our faces, We could've missed payments because Wells Fargo SUCKS and have our credit killed.

All of these things DIDN'T happen to us, so we got to purchase a house. Because if any of those things happened to us, we would've dipped into savings and we wouldn't be purchasing a house in our 30s. All of those things that could've happened were completely out of our control. (except for Wells Fargo, you can choose to not be fucked by Wells Fargo by LEAVING Wells Fargo)

So... there is no plan, only a lottery.
