A random question, anyone got examples of anime where the female characters aren't acting in the stereotype shouty or childish way?

Especially if it's a good anime. I'm trying to think of examples, but I'm experiencing brain fog right now.

@anianimalsmoe my working hypothesis is that it's getting better --i find the late 80's/early 90's stuff often unwatchable for that reason, but it's less pervasive now. It's wild to watch One Piece for that reason --I found the early female characters to be annoying, but it's definitely improved over its 20 year run.

@chiasm @anianimalsmoe Really?
I've hardly watched anime recently, I feel like most of it is panty shots, tits or gore. Or someone who woke up as something extremely weird in another world - though that often seems combined with panty shots and tits. Or it's about little girls who are somehow fighting machines.

@avradi @anianimalsmoe hmm. I avoid gore, so I can't judge that (couldn't watch Chainsaw Man, for example). I may not notice tits, tbh. I've seen one show recently that had a lot of panty shots, but it stood out to me for that reason, because it was one out of dozens of shows(and it was not a good storyline/plot either). Have you seen Dr. Stone? Did the women characters there have these problems?

@chiasm @avradi
I finished reading Dr Stone a few weeks ago, and yeah, it's pretty clean, but the female characters aren't given much of the limelight. The characters are mostly young or teenagers so they're pretty shouty and childish.

@chiasm
It's still horrible that a lot of the male-focused manga and novels are written by amateurs who don't actually know how to write female characters without objectifying them. It's a problem in English written novels too, but it's been improving much faster than Japanese stuff.

@anianimalsmoe An old movie I enjoyed was Jin-roh. Would that qualify perhaps?

Some Gundam could qualify as well.

@anianimalsmoe Anime with adult characters is a smaller subset. Some of these I haven't seen in a while.
Noir, Twelve Kingdoms, Tatami Galaxy, Super Cub (young but not ditzy), Slow Loop (same), Psycho Pass, Rose of Versailles, Carole & Tuesday, Flying Witch. In Iyashikei series the characters are calm and stable for the most part. I don't know how you'd class the characters in Aria. Hakumei to Mikochi maybe? Kino's Journey.
Otona Precure might fit too, though they tend to drink and complain that their dream jobs all have turned out to be disappointments.

@anianimalsmoe

Attack on Titan
86
Aldnoah.Zero
Ghost in the Shell
Hibike Euphonium

I'm not confident that my own sense of this kind of thing isn't out of whack. But I feel like characters like Mikasa or Kusanagi should pretty uncontroversially not fall under these stereotypes.

@anianimalsmoe Went to my Anilist quick to refresh my mind and the following have a variety of female characters in their casts and where, if someone is shouty or childish, they're either a child OR trying to make their case (e.g. Kaori anytime she hits Ryo with her hammer)

Oh My Goddess
Zoids
Angelic Layer
Outlaw Star
Astra Lost in Space
Oniisama-E
Tenchi Muyo (okay, it's JUST Ryoko and Ayeka to blame here xD but everyone else is fine)
Pumpkin Scissors
Hime-chan's Ribbon
Saint Tail
Mirai Nikki
Symphogear
City Hunter
Maison Ikkoku
Bubblegum Crisis
NANA
Urusei Yatsura
Battle Athletes
Macross (depends on which series, but anyone shouty is likely a kid like Mylene or just that typical moe character)
Nurse Angel Ririka SOS
Magic Knight Rayearth

@anianimalsmoe “Mardock Scramble”, “Violet Evergarden”?

@TritTriton
Hrrm... Yeah forgot about Violet. I shall put Mardock Scramble on hold while I research.

@anianimalsmoe like, all the female characters in the show or just having any that doesn't do that?

anianimalsmoe,
@anianimalsmoe@sakurajima.moe avatar

@geraineon
Shrug. Let me think... Child characters get excused, unless a majority of the main characters are children.

@anianimalsmoe Seirei no moribito? I don't think Chihayafuru is shouty either. Paradise Kiss? Akatsuki no Yona. ... Serial experiments lain.

I'm going for female main cast right now but I do think my meter for what is shouty is a little broken.

@anianimalsmoe oh and Blood+, and Shin Sekai Yori
