#OTD in 1902.

Greek archaeologist Valerios Stais discovers the Antikythera mechanism, an ancient mechanical analog computer.

The mechanism is composed of at least 30 bronze gears housed in a wooden frame. It features dials, pointers, and inscriptions that correspond to various astronomical cycles. The front dial is believed to show the zodiac and the solar and lunar calendars, while the back dials include the Metonic, Saros & Callippic cycles.

StevenBLaube,

@gutenberg_org in my research there arouse(based on
Alexander Marshack publications) the possible foundations or origins of the zodiac ,it was found that woman that counting and tracking of the lunar months to track child birth was the origins of markings on bone there for a rudimentary computer, not to far a stretch to conclude the zodiac and its relationship to the heavens in determining who was the father and so personality

@gutenberg_org That discovery has given me untold hours of reading (and since , watching) on the topic over the years.

Such fertile ground for the imagination, pondering the origins, uses and the ancient technologies that have been discovered, lost and discovered again who knows how many times!
