Hi all, this is a thread to discuss KBin, including our general thoughts on the platform and features that are missing or not working. I am hoping this will help us determine KBin's long-term viability for ARMY as well as keep each other informed about what might not be working correctly at the time (as this is alpha software and wobbly).

I was checking the sidebar of one of my other magazine subscriptions (@magASEAN, for Southeast Asian posts), and saw that they had a TAGS portion. This made a number of hashtagged posts appear on the microblog section of the magazine. I wonder if that's possible here, or if #BTS and related tags are just too huge to access.
@pixiecata Yes it's possible to add them to the magazine - but I decided not to at least at first, because I thought the flood might be a lot. We could experiment with adding a more specific tag that we can use to push stuff to here I guess.
To reply to a magazine thread on Kbin from Mastodon or Calckey, get the url of the thread and put it in the search box. It will appear as a post in Mastodon (or Calckey) to which you can reply in the usual way. It's also an easier way to upload photos with alt-text. I haven't figured out how to start a thread on Kbin from other Fediverse servers yet.
@pixiecata It appears there is no way to start a magazine thread from other non-Kbin Fediverse servers. I don't see a way to create a post to Kbin from either Mastodon or Calckey, unless it is a reply to an existing thread or if it appears as a microblog. I am replying to this from Calckey.
The big thing that's missing IMO is the "multireddit" feature that reddit has. Being able to select "groups" of subreddits/magazines to view in a home feed style, instead of just a general collection of the random topics you end up following. It's my bread&butter on reddit since it makes it easy to look at the different topics I'm interested in.
For kbin specifically, I'd like to know how to make regular microblog posts like on mastodon, without having to select a magazine. selecting a magazine is nice for some uses, but it feels weird to select one if I just wanna write my own thoughts on my own feed (twitter/mastodon style) without posting to a community.
Edit: For the second thing I mention, the proper way to do this is to select the "random" magazine, which apparently isn't actually a regular magazine, but instead a "catch-all" for mastodon/microblog posts. A bit confusing but that seems to be how it works?
Multireddit: In settings, you can adjust what is shown on your home page. Two options include only displaying content from your subscribed magazines and only showing content from "favorites". Favourites sounds like what you want, but I'm still trying to figure out how to make a magazine a favourite (does anyone know?). In the meantime, "subscribed" should get you closer.
Microblog posts are called "posts" in the add menu. They don't show up in the main "threads" view of a magazine, to see posts you need to go to the "Microblog" view within the Magazine. I haven't explored posts fully yet.
I'm not sure "favorites" is what I want lol. Like on reddit I can have "gaming", "anime", "tech" multireddits which work like my homepage, but for particular topics (I can get a bunch of gaming subreddits in my gaming multireddit). A favorites thing would only give me one category (favorites).
Also I'm not sure "favorites" applies to magazines? I thought "favorites" was just the kbin equivalent of a like/upvote? so it'd just show the stuff you liked?
I've tested adding an image thread, as well as adding images to an article thread. The UI on the desktop (tested on MacOS using Safari, Chrome, and Firefox) doesn't work. I haven't tested on mobile yet.
I have an issue where the popup window appears in Safari but when I go to click on the Browse button, it goes away. I have to use Firefox to upload a photo to a new article/Post
The photos we've tried loading on the J-Hope thread look distorted and aren't shown in the right proportion. At least that's how it looks in Chrome on my desktop.

The UI is forcing them into squares, but if you click on them it loads the image correctly. I've edited my original post to include a link to all the pictures I've found so far.
Notifications don't seem to be working at the moment.
Note: this has potential implications for moderation, as I'm not sure (as moderators) we'll see everything. If you spot something that concerns you in this magazine, please DM one of the moderators, and we'll look into it. Hopefully, as KBin matures, notifications will start working, and we'll get more mature moderation tools.
