Image of the day is Introspection, an in-camera double exposure on film.

Back in the late fall, Louka and I worked on a Photosynthesis session that had a good number of successful "leaf" images. These are probably my favourite leaf images since I started doing them. It's still a fraught process, with frequent failures as I struggle to balance the exposures of the leaf and the model. But I'll be back at it, now that it's the spring and there are leaves to work with again.

@Sammael99 @limebar great stuff. I identify with the failure rate. In camera or combining two images on a darkroom print, either way it takes some work. 👏🏻

@stevenray @limebar I've always been curious about darkroom doubles. I'm guessing you can plan a little bit better, maybe, but it's still going to be hit and miss because you can't see where you're printing, right ?

There's an image by Elliott Erwitt (see attached) that I have in one of his books, but there's no mention of it in the text and I haven't been able to find anything about it online. I've tried to reproduce it in-camera, but it's really hard.

@Sammael99 @limebar hoo, that's phenomenal. You're right of course that you can't line things up easily. You do have red light, obviously.

I use a hybrid process for my prints which includes a contact print frame instead of using a film holder (I still use the enlarger for it's light).

So, you can use tape on the outside of the frame to indicate about where to place the individual negatives, which for me have either been paper or transparency.

That removes a lot of the guesswork. Still not easy and a bit laborious.

@Sammael99 @limebar here's an example. I believe for this print, both the images (clouds and succulent) were on transparency.

@stevenray @limebar That's gorgeous. Do your pixelfed images automatically come up in your feed ?

@Sammael99 @limebar you mean in mastodon? Kinda sorta. I try to repost or boost ‘em here. Though you can follow Pixelfed accounts if you feel like it. Also, thanks for your generous compliment. 😊

@Sammael99 @limebar reading the detail in that post, I guess I combined those images in software first. But there are other images on that account posted at about the same time which use a mix of large format paper neg and transparency.
