#palestine / Senior Palestinian Authority official: U.S talk of two states - an attempt to pressure Netanyahu to stop the fighting, we have not received an outline
A senior political official in the Palestinian Authority spoke with #Haaretz and said "Talk of a Palestinian state keeps coming up as a headline from various parties including the US and EU, but so far no outline has been presented that can show the administration really intends to promote a political plan."
According to him, "Our concern is that this is a confrontation for the purpose of pressuring #Netanyahu to stop the fighting and create internal pressure within Israel that may lead to political change." He added: "We are waiting and hoping to receive a clear plan and outline, not just slogans. It must be remembered that they talk about a state but no one says how and within which borders. So far we have not heard even once talk of '67."
Meanwhile, this evening the spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, said: "What is required of the United States is to recognize the state of #Palestine, not just talk about a two state solution. Now is the right time to do so." He added that the Israeli government "does not care for peace and stability, and still refuses to recognize the fact that peace will not be achieved without establishing an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital within the 1967 borders."
