bujiraso,

Getting back into since it's been too long since I had a preferred client. I'm trying out gnus in right now.

Fittingly, the first RSS feed I've loaded is @daviwil 's System Crafters
https://systemcrafters.net/

Now: to customize to my liking!

@bujiraso @daviwil

there is also elfeed for emacs

bujiraso,

@dekkzz76 count that as two votes on the thread for elfeed!
I'll definitely check it out soon, thanks!

@bujiraso

gnus is over complex & is a big gatekeeper to increasing emacs usage

    it's overly complex for new users to get basic functionality who don't know other rss or mail packages exist.

    it's on my avoid at all costs list if ppl ask me for help as they start out

    @dekkzz76 Couldn’t you say the same about org-mode?

    @mapcar

    possibly but there are far more org-mode users than gnus, so i guess org-mode is useful while gnus isn't to beginners

    @dekkzz76 I would be curious to know if you have any particular examples of how gnus is particular complex for basic use.

    your an experienced user, from my experience of new, facing lisp for the first time users, gnus is always an issue.

    what's brought up is lack of examples on the web, oddly written docs & the perceptions it's high skill cap to get the best out of it.

    it certainly has many features but it isn't for newbies, even the most that have gone on to learn it after a few years learning emacs & elisp seem to agree with that.

    @dekkzz76 That's on GNU Emacs refusing non-doxed contributions.

    There's no other reason to not have integrated elfeed.el already. Its license is compatible.

    non doxed?

    holl,

    I ve been using elfeed for a while and switched back to gnus. Killer feature for me is the ability to link an entry in the RSS to org-mode. That's nice if, like me, you need to go through 80 new entries per day, selecting only the relevant ones for wokring on them later.

    I've found elfeed a bit cumbersome to use as i couldn't easily configure putting and removing flags for later processing. Plus the integration with gnus means i can move some entries to email folders, put them under agent for offline availability. There is also auto splitting.

    not exactly a beginner use case
