There is a massive influx of newcomers from Reddit, the servers have a hard time dealing with it.
It takes time to upscale, just be patient.

MedicPigBabySaver,

Very expected. Calm ya tits.

@MedicPigBabySaver wasn’t here for this but my tits are now very calm. Thanks!

You're not the only one. I'm constantly seeing cloudflare pages that look like they want to captcha me but then just wait for a while before finally loading the page. Growing pains, it seems.

Zana,

Oh good, so it's not just me and is normal. I was worried.

  • HandsHurtLoL,

It both feels like going back in time to reddit vanilla, but also to dial-up. ha ha

    johnthedoe,

Ok good to hear it's not just me or my phone. Desktop browser works fine but on iphone it's like dial up speed. Hopefully this will get improved. Desktop is a much better experience right now for sure.

    Kichae,

K-soc isn't running on some enterprise level, horizontally integrated cluster. It's running on a small business level VPS. It probably currently has twice the number of active users as it should be able to comfortably handle.

We have to get people out onto other servers. And that means we need to spin up dozens of them so that people actually have other servers to go to.

It seems better than it was earlier today. It was pretty much unusable for several hours, but now it's just a bit slow and I get a cloudflare check every 20-30 minutes. For where we are in the development and the massive traffic bump, I'd say it's doing okay.

By comparison, Squabbles had been stable for most of the day, but it's starting to have its own growing pains at 11k users, and the trolls seem to have decided to say hello since there's no way for individuals to block each other yet.

For sure. Same. Kind of expected it considering.

Yeah same. Kinda assumed several thousand more people might put pressure on the servers.

You're not the only one. We'll have to give them the time to upscale.

kbin's been pretty slow since I joined. It was really bad last night. but it's been getting better. It's getting the reddit hug of death lol. hopefully it'll get to a fast speed after things settle a bit?

You are not, and it was even slower for me at the time you posted this thread than it is now. Hopefully things will stabilize as ernest works on getting more solid infrastructure and mitigating the load from all the traffic.

Probaly for the new influx of users. Give it time! I'm excited about where this can go from. Probably not gonna replace reddit anytime soon sadly. But at least make sure to visit a contribute from time to time

No sir, you aren't the only one. It'll sort itself out eventually.

    squirmin,

Because of the decentralized nature of kbin, the perfect idea would be that people join other instances to access everything, but in reality everyone joins a single instance and it slows to a crawl until it can be mitigated.

Unfortunately it's not just you, no. Now the subreddit blackout is in full swing, even more people have fled here, and the servers just can't cope.
I believe @ernest is planning on upgrading the server further, but is limited on how many times it can be changed in a week (sign ups have gone that crazy). It might also be the Cloudflare implementation is still struggling, as even they're having issues that completely took down multiple sites, including reddit, earlier.

I am happy to hear, at least, that there is genuinely a influx of sign ups.
