At first it was all peace and love… But now every time I log in, people are arguing about what constitutes hate speech and people are announcing their departure.
I don’t understand what the hell happened. (I don’t mean that literally. I just mean I don’t understand how it’s apparently devolving so rapidly and people are so riled up, they’re publicly announcing they’re leaving.)
I just deleted my comments and then my account there, lol. It was a rapid decline. Every time I popped in a new drama. The latest one, yesterday, was that the site's dev announced Squabblr as a "free speech platform," and changed the TOS to seemingly exclude protections for LGBTQ+ people and said that all contributions from users belonged to the site. When I tuned in this morning the dev seemed to have reversed course (still free speech, though) but by now three popular mods havee gone, a couple thousand of the most active users also gone, and his Patreon donors are down by half. So Squabblr seems to be setting itself up to be more alt-right and troll friendly. The active users have mostly migrated to Discuit - let's see if they bring the drama there, too.
Honestly, this feels like an even worse name, in my opinion. I really disliked the trend of removing the "e" from "er" at the end of website names during the Web 2.0 days, and it feels just as goofy today.
I can't complain too much, though. I'm mostly just using it for cat pictures and silly memes, and the Tiff app works just the same as it did before.
I forgot all about Squabbles and then I got an email saying “We’re Squabblr now” that never once said who they were. I was confused how it made it past spam check.
