@ambivalena@elaterite and the typography on these things is just beautiful. Even the utilitarian stuff—ID numbers, warnings—is often in some blocky factory-esque typeface that I like more than the usual Helvetica/Arial you see nowadays.
I was in a steel museum last year, and a lot of those old machines had metal plates with the company name, address, and various manufacturing data, all of it set in this ornate serif lettering that looked like text from an old-style official document. Lovely.
