Kierunkowy74, in The Internet Isn't Meant To Be So Small

The difference was internet life wasn't integrated with real life yet, not like today. No one wanted to use their real name on anything, except Myspace. Message boards were self-contained islands to talk about your favorite hobby, team, band, etc. No one wanted to have a persona/brand that bridged real life and the internet. Even early Youtube was all mostly people making weird/surrealist/goofy animations and home movies with no goal of getting rich doing so. It was all for the fun of it. They didn't use their real names as their user names on Youtube. It was basically like a bigger and more mainstream version of Newgrounds.

I próbuję to porównać do obecnego fediwersum.

/kbin nie daje łatwej możliwości, by stworzyć tożsamość łączącą prawdziwe życie i fedi

albertkinng, in Enjoying Mastodon, but returned to Twitter anyway - here's why

@deadbeef @ernest There’s nothing bad for staying with Twitter. You be on all of the social network available to be honest. It’s about your personal ideals what this is about. If you make a living creating content like blogs, videos or podcasts you need to be on the main platforms. If you’re looking for a place to be honest and gather with people with the same values as you, then you choose wisely for that platform. Social apps are a big shopper magazine now.

olavf, in Twitter says it will restrict access to some tweets before Turkey’s election

@deadbeef what do you expect from big SM? They folded to Xi. They folded to Modi. They folded to Putin. And Abiy. And Khameni. And anywhere that threatens to block their service.

deadbeef,

@olavf

It's not about expectations (in these regards, I'm hardly surprised of what happened). It's more like documentation to me.

olavf,

@deadbeef fair enough. I more or less meant it rhetorically anyway.

deadbeef,

@olavf

I see. I think it's important to document it despite the expected outcome because many people still see Elon as a defender of free speech (whatever that is).
