A core aim of Russian-style , aka ”flooding the zone with shit” is to also create cynicism.

When everything is subject and nothing is true, people slowly start thinking that whatever they do, it will be corrupted and won’t matter anyway.

So they stop doing anything, political talk moves ”to the kitchen” as they say.

So they keep telling how is corrupt, and more & more people in US think it’s a smart move to avoid assistance from lining up politician’s pockets there.

polezaivsani,

@gimulnautti I agree with the overall idea, yet it's not cynicism that's the aim here. This firehose of lies is meant to leave population disoriented, sow discord in shared vision and discredit the facts.

Cynicism is a coping mechanism for those dizzy from propaganda and failing to reconcile reality with the mass media bullshit. The use it as mean of keeping a bit of sanity by ridiculing the official narrative. And oft used social device from USSR.

@polezaivsani Yes. The primary aim is blurring of facts. I agree there. I simply wanted to bring out cynicism in this particular context.

Thanks for bringing this aspect out. It is no surprise to me that comedy is so popular in former USSR territories.

However, cynicism can still be used as a misinformation weapon against western states, whereas in those territories it serves a different purpose.

polezaivsani,

@gimulnautti Yes, totally agree, cynicism sure thwarts any social organization from getting underway.

Yes, compared to the West, even modern Ukraine is quite corrupt.

It is, however, remarkably less corrupt than just 5 years ago.

Compared to 10-15 years ago, the improvement has been phenomenal. Ask Biden, tehehehe..

Compared to Soviet times? Well.. Probably doesn’t even beg to be asked.

It’s all relative. And propaganda can bring some to the front and others to the background when phrased just right.

Fund Ukraine's defense in alternative ways...
Seize the frozen bank US accounts of Konstantin Nikolaev, Mikhail Yuriev, and Andrey Kunatbaev.

@Npars01 This might turn against the US in the long run, as much of it’s financial might is in the banking system, of which trust is an essential factor. So I’m quite sceptical of it actually happening.

One reason why Trump canceled the Iran nuclear deal is so GOP donors on Wall Street could keep control of Iran's frozen assets.

That's 50 years...

If unfrozen, Iran intends to fund terrorism & a nuclear missile program, so it's tiger by the tail.

Do Russian oligarchs want more of the same?

If Russia leaves Ukraine, all of it and now, they get control of their cash back.

@Npars01 Having the cash released on leaving Ukraine sounds like a quite attractive bait to me.

And it creates a lever to give reasons for those under Putin to try and end the war.
