Ukraine does not avoid a partition by defeating Russia with superior military strength. I doubt even Ukrainians can win a modern land war in Asia, though they’ve surprised me before.
They avoid a partition by outlasting the Russians and exhausting their economic resources. Very similar to how WW1 was won. Once Russian society can no longer sustain the war effort without imminent societal collapse from lack of labor and money to pay for it, for all the sectors necessary in a modern economy, and dropping morale, then the end of the war will become visible.
