From more or less the late 70s to early 90s was the heyday of so-called "premium 900" numbers. Most of us who lived through that period have walled off in our brains the seemingly endless TV commercials promoting these, but occasionally such memories rise unbidden like an unwanted demon from the deep recesses of the mind, recalling the entire horror in detail.

In the process of looking over some of these today I discovered that Al Lewis (Grandpa Munster), had a "Junior Vampire Club" 900 number -- this one I missed at the time.
One of the recurring backstories on all the sex call 900 numbers was that supposedly many of them were answered by bored housewives to whom the calls were routed at home. On the phone, who would know?
@QRSS_Test 976 was almost entirely supplanted by 900 for this purpose. While both initially started as non-premium "choke" prefixes (e.g. for local radio station call-ins for 976 and national call-ins for 900), the latter had far greater reach and pretty much took over the space.
