SciFi story idea: WE are the Pakled. We became a space-faring menace only because of a momentary lapse in judgement from a visiting warp-capable species. That's all it took.

Teksavvy Fibre is now available at my location, where I've had Bell Fibre for about 6 years.

It will take some time for me to consider switching over, with questions about having Bell Fibe TV service and Teksavvy Fibre Internet at the same time.

For a while, I had 5 Bell-provided services. Internet, Mobile, Landline, TV, Alarm Monitoring.

The mobile left years ago. The Landline is only around because it's more expensive to not have it.

The classics keep popping on Movies & TV. Another one (as before, free in the U.S.) has apparently just surfaced. And it's a biggie -- 1960's "Spartacus". Mostly directed by Stanley Kubrick, it's arguably Kirk Douglas' most important role. Running more than three hours, it's one of the uber-great historical dramas, about an escaped gladiator who takes on the entire Roman Empire, and is based on an actual slave immortalized in historical texts from the period. If you've never seen this wondrous film you should. And if you have, it's probably time to see it again.

Is this for real? Did Elon just lay off ’s entire Supercharger business division?

“Rebecca Tinucci, senior director of the electric vehicle maker's Supercharger business, and Daniel Ho, head of the new vehicles program, will leave on Tuesday morning, the report said.

Musk also plans to dismiss everyone working for Tinucci and Ho, including the roughly 500 employees who work in the Supercharger group, The Information said. It was not clear how many employees worked for Ho.”

The Supercharger system is probably Tesla’s most beloved and successful product. What is going on?

If you're interested in understanding what's wrong with corporations right now, what's driving our global capitalist omnishambles? This is an amazingly insightful (if long, and entertainment-industry focussed) deep dive into the madness of modern management theories:

https://docseuss.medium.com/the-biggest-threat-facing-your-team-whether-youre-a-game-developer-or-a-tech-founder-or-a-ceo-is-8cd1ad359508

@cstross
This is really good.

I am watching this dynamic close up and personal with many of my former clients, who have now moved into the extractive phase solely to make their stock price go up by any means necessary.

They used to make a great product, & are busy gutting it on the Number Go Up alter.

Notice no corporation ever settles into their old age of a stable stock price & issues dividends anymore?

"Those who have never seen Superior get an inadequate, even inaccurate idea, by hearing it spoken of as a 'lake,' and to those who have sailed over its vast extent the word sounds positively ludicrous. Though its waters are fresh and crystal, Superior is a sea. It breeds storms, and rain and fogs, like the sea. It is cold in mid-summer as the Atlantic. It is wild, masterful, and dreaded as the Black Sea." - Rev. George Grant, Ocean to Ocean, 1872

Just finished S1E8. Summary: Absolutely brilliant.

10/10 rendition of , pulling together themes from 1, 3, New Vegas & 4 (that I recognized on first viewing).

It brought to life the signature of the series: believable factions, faction conflict over different worldview goals, & POV characters making critical moral decisions that change everything.

It's social critique was on the nose: extractive capitalism achieving its summit.

Bravo!

From more or less the late 70s to early 90s was the heyday of so-called "premium 900" numbers. Most of us who lived through that period have walled off in our brains the seemingly endless TV commercials promoting these, but occasionally such memories rise unbidden like an unwanted demon from the deep recesses of the mind, recalling the entire horror in detail.

If you're not familiar with this, you too can join the nightmare, simply by searching on for:

    900 numbers

    You will be sorry.

    EricCarroll,

The has outed itself as intolerant & abusive as the worst of the twitter trolls.

The HOA tries to impose a minority view on the entire fediverse using abuse & viral outrage tactics in the face of software & protocols that do exactly the opposite.

I noticed this dynamic when I first joined & listened to the cultural differences.
