Does anyone else feel deeply offended by scam text messages? @actuallyautistic

@Susan60 @actuallyautistic I get mostly scam and or marketing calls but I hate them, because I hate calls. A while ago I deactivated the voicemail because I also really don't like the "I called, please call me when you get this". You gotta text me. Calls feel extremely intrusive to me.

@AutisticDoctorStruggles @actuallyautistic I never use voicemail. I’ll call back if I know it. Otherwise text me.

@Susan60 @actuallyautistic the weird thing was, I think, that voicemail was activated by default at my last provider and one had to call them to deactivate it! Absolutely unbelievable! My new provider had the option to deactivate it oneself!

@Susan60 @actuallyautistic They are very annoying. Who decides to make a living by ripping others off? What scum.

@timrichards @actuallyautistic If I met one in person, I would want to break their nose. Probably wouldn’t do it, but the desire would be strong.

@Susan60 @actuallyautistic I don’t get the text messages, but I get lots of spam calls every day. My phone used to never ring, but then my business changed to an LLC and now I get so many sales calls and scam calls I had to set it to silence unknown callers.

My partner did that, but then we realised he was missing some legitimate calls.

HaelusNovak,

@ashleyspencer @Susan60 @actuallyautistic I made the mistake of using a job application site and didn't know to somehow obscure my pH, and now my phone is more plagued by people I don't know than to anyone I do.

throsby,

@Susan60 @actuallyautistic

Would be, and can understand the offense, but I'm well beyond it. Every SMS with clickable link is instantly deleted and the sender blacklisted.

I tolerated decades of scammers - and 'charities' (aka their profiteering fundraisers) - on the landline before giving up and placing it behind an answering machine that says, in a sweet British accent: " Hello, your call cannot be answered and you cannot leave a message. So please call again later. Goodbye."

@throsby @actuallyautistic

We got rid of the landline. I sometimes laugh at the texts, the poor wording, unlikely URLs &!the fact that I’ve never banked with that bank, but occasionally I get really angry.

@throsby Once you try to scam me, decorum is no longer required. When I got calls from people with subcontinental accents saying my internet service was about to be cut off, I put Manboob from Mumbai on the line to demand an explanation. This was not well received. Probably due to my laughably bad parody accent. 'you fuck bastard! shut up!' @Susan60 @actuallyautistic
