With @actuallyautistic discussing "AI", I thought this Embrace Autism article discussing "Valuing truth over conformity" which was sparked by a talk on "AI" is interesting.

Personal note: I've been confused my entire life about why other people around me don't seek "truth", and also why so many people around me get upset at me when I speak.

My has helped me better understand the previous 5 decades of life.

zbyte64,

@russellmcormond @actuallyautistic this reminds me of the book "One Dimensional Man", to white another:

Marcuse gives an impression of people lulled into conformity, rather than bludgeoned or tricked.

The ‘one dimension’ of the title refers to the flattening of discourse, imagination, culture, and politics into the field of understanding, the perspective, of the dominant order.

I think a lot of miscommunication happens between ND & NT because of the pressure to flatten our understanding of words. Autistics might use words in a way that is open to dialectics but the meaning is lost on those who have flattened their vocabulary to a single world view.

I had many problems with this communication, especially as it relates to "motivation" for sharing information.

For instance, there was a mismatch between job titles and work that was being assigned in my previous employment. I wanted to get work done regardless of "jursidiction", but any discussion was claimed to be a deliberate attack on coworkers.

The false assumptions from management of my "motivation" still confuse me a year later.

I also find the belief in a "single world view" to be confusing.

I grew up under the Canadian Crown, and all the White (not melanin, but Western European Christian worldviews) normative culture. Once I finally learned past the indoctrination, so much more of the world made more sense.

However, I've found that not all Autistic people break free of those normative cultures, sometimes as a part of self-hatred (not even fully accepting their own neurotype).

While we are autistic, we are also human in the broader sense. Denial & minimisation can be potent defence mechanisms for many people. And given that we’re brought up in ableist societies, it’s hardly surprising that many of us absorb ableist attitudes, which can be hard to shake off even after diagnosis/realisation.

I struggle with lies & even defensive self deception, so I guess it’s even harder to “get” when the person practising it is autistic.
