Is this a 'thing', or is it just a joke? It seems to ring true to me...?

With @actuallyautistic discussing "AI", I thought this Embrace Autism article discussing "Valuing truth over conformity" which was sparked by a talk on "AI" is interesting.

https://embrace-autism.com/valuing-truth-over-conformity/

Personal note: I've been confused my entire life about why other people around me don't seek "truth", and also why so many people around me get upset at me when I speak.

My #AutismAcceptance has helped me better understand the previous 5 decades of life.

Y'know, there's an easy way we can fight back against the enshittification of everything, both online and off. I never realized it, but i've been fighting back all my life.

Never click an ad and consciously avoid spending any money on a company that successfully managed to fling its advertizing feces in your face.

If ads didn't work, the entire capitalist structure of the internet would collapse. Do your part. Make them not work on you.

Yes, our entire world is directed toward promoting and , with the aim of obtaining, maximising, and retaining (mostly for and the ). It's that that is causing all of our problems, I think?

I often hear about temperature dysregulation, but I don't think I experience that myself. Rather, I experience sensory sensitivity to heat.

I was wondering how this manifests in the community. Are you sensitive to cold? To heat? To dryness? Humidity? Or are you generally dysregulated? And what does that mean for you?

PatternChaser,
@PatternChaser@mas.to avatar

@Mux @actuallyautistic I'm usually cold when I go to bed, but when I wake in the morning, my hands and feet are on fire, and I get up and walk around for a few minutes with no shoes or socks, to let them cool down. Then I get properly dressed.

Do you have an easier time taking care of the needs of others than yourself?

If so, do you have (or know of) any theories for why you work that way?

PatternChaser,
@PatternChaser@mas.to avatar

@jens @nettle @actuallyautistic

Me too! I had a recent crisis, and the most difficult part of it was that I had considered the wellbeing of everyone involved except me. It took me a while, but I finally realised that I deserve consideration too. That was when I could start to recover...

Following diagnosis, you have a new vocabulary that you didn't have before, to explain feelings (etc) that you didn't recognise, or didn't know you had, before.

As a result, your outward behaviour can become more obviously autistic; perhaps it might seem "heightened".

I don't know of articles, though. Maybe someone else does?

Well, i lost another "friend". I mean...he's a snitch for the cops and thinks putin has the right idea, but my breaking point was when he got black market antibiotics for a virus and took half of them.

Now he's sulking because i called him out on it. I called him ignorant, and said facts are different from opinions.

I know it's acceptable to wield intentional ignorance to deniably kill weaker people, but this dude /is/ weaker people.

Telling people you hear the voice of God should be grounds for immediate removal from public office.

@Gustodon Placing the responsibility for your actions onto God, surely that is when we remove them from office? After all, we may be a God-loving community who want our leaders to listen to God...?

@actuallyautistic i keep seeing here ocd or "extremely organised" as a definitely autistic trait, while messy being assigned to adhd and i'm (adult diagnosed) living with a diagnosed in a childhood person and we're messy as hell, especially in combination while neither of us suspect adhd and it's just very annoying to have it as a given here, does anyone share this even?

PatternChaser,
@PatternChaser@mas.to avatar

@lexx3000 @actuallyautistic I could reasonably be described as "extremely organised", but it's only because if I weren't, I would forget to do the things I want to get done, or lose a thing because I can't remember where I put it... 😀

This is a great post, with admirable sentiments. I have a request, though.

As Palestinians also trace their descent back to the ancient Semite tribe, and there is much (deliberately-induced) confusion between "Jew" and "Israeli", please can we use "anti-Jewish" or "anti-Israeli" instead of "anti-Semitic"?

Thus we can avoid and oppose the "cancer" that is anti-Jewishness, but continue to criticise the inhuman doings of the USA-backed state of Israel.

Can anyone help with this?

PatternChaser,

@feditips @TammyGentzel Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. Sadly that only allows me to add a new column searching a hashtag.

I really wanted to open a new column showing another user account. It seems that can't be done.

Your post deserves a much more deeply-considered response than I can manage at the moment. But you raise some good points, that many autists will have encountered.

Once I found out I was autistic, it gave me a new vocabulary with which to understand myself and my reactions to Life, the Universe and Everything ... and to those around me. 😆

The article describes a mechanism that acts on children, but not one that would operate when the neuro-difference is present even before birth, a 'neuro-developmental' condition like autism, for example? 🤔🤔

I love language, as you do, although my command of it extends only to English, with a smattering of Welsh, French, German, and the usual (and ancient) European tongues.

I also celebrate the poetic madness that is the English language, and mourn what Americans have done to their own language, where losing the spelling eccentricities also loses pointers to the history and origin of the word.

PatternChaser,
@PatternChaser@mas.to avatar

@CynAq @marytzu @hellomiakoda @actuallyautistic

But I also spent 40 years in hardware and software design, and I love the different perspective that programming languages bring. They are mostly-precise, and unable to tolerate syntax errors, but one can express things in a programming language that English, for example, cannot support.

I love all the languages I have come across! 👍😀

Wow! I speak English (my native language) with limited facility, and have a smattering of half a dozen others. I love language, but IME what I know is always heavily outweighed by what I don't. C'est la vie! 😃

@CynAq @ahrimans_erbe @lapingvino @marytzu @hellomiakoda @actuallyautistic

Yes. My cousin speaks English, German and Dutch fluently, and tells me that he often thinks in one language rather than another, depending on what he's thinking about. Horses for courses...
