I second this.

I go to bed 'early' - often in bed and comfortable by 9pm.

I do use a tablet to research my special interest for a couple hours, nothing new or novel, safe familiar stuff : favourite series, or twitch speedrunners playing the same game or level over and over so it's slightly novel and interesting but very predictable.

Wind down, and when sleepy earphones out and try to sleep.

If sleep doesn't come, or it's one of 'those' nights where my brain wants to replay past social mistakes on a loop, then time to distract : another 20-30 min watching hand tool rescue sanding and restoring an old device.

Don't lay there trying to sleep : you need to sneak up on it, distracting yourself until the brain shuts down without noticing.

In the morning, GET UP first thing with the alarm and then a short burst of daily exercise, shower, then ready for the day.

Good sleep has really helped me deal with more during the day!
