CaptainPedantic,

Check out the FDA’s drug shortage website for Vyvanse. The only version that’s not in shortage is the name brand version. So forget about getting generic (I just spent $300 on name brand because my insurance doesn’t cover it!) Ask specifically for the name brand if they’re out of stock of the generic.

As far as I’ve been able to figure out, there are only a few pharmacy suppliers out there. Different pharmacies can use the same suppliers, and will therefore have the same supply issues.

WhiteOakBayou,

My local big box pharmacy gave me the name brand for the generic price because the generic was backordered. They said they did this based on what the insurance allows. I went there three times in two weeks to ask about an eta before one of the techs suggested we try that. It worked and I had my meds in an hour.

bionicjoey,

Do pharmacies not order things when they’re out? I always call my prescriptions in advance and the pharmacy makes sure they have enough and then calls me back a few days later. Is that not how it works where you are?

prettybunnys,

There is a medicine shortage right now. It’s a supply issue not an ordering issue.

bionicjoey,

Ah, okay. I wasn’t aware.

DoctorSpocktopus,

I think the best option would just be to pull a list of local pharmacies of the internet and start calling. Or pick the next community over and try them. Hitting up a major city might be helpful, or a small town might not have the population to use up their supply.
