andabata,

Got myself a new project, A very rusty 600.

andabata,

Don't think this modulator ever going to modulate any time soon.

andabata,

Removed more crusty things. Looks like i can salvage the powerconnector

andabata,

Beneath the layer of rust, the pcb still looks alright.

andabata,

Ha! It boots with diagrom with output on the serial port. Didn't expect that without much cleaning and replacing components

video/mp4

andabata,

And got video output, dirty contacts was the issue. Who had thought that would be an issue :)

andabata,

Let's see if I can de-rust the housing

andabata,

Don't think this is salvageable. Need at least a new membrane.
On a side note. Does anyone knows a good reseller for a recap kit for an a600?

andabata,

Friend dropped of a fancy membrane replacement

andabata,

De-capped and de-connectored, time for a deep clean.

andabata,

De-rusted metal and plastic parts

andabata,

Top side is cleaned.

andabata,

Bottom side still needs some love.

andabata,

Bottom, as clean as it going to get without destroying it completely. And now we wait for new caps and connectors.

andabata,

Guess what I'll be doing this evening

andabata,

Recapped, need more practice to do it more neatly. But it still works even after all the scrubbing I did to clean it. Now the wait for the remaining connectors

andabata,

More fresh connectors for the Amiga 600

andabata,

Keyboard retrobrighted and reassembled.

andabata,

Seems like some plungers need a bit more cleaning.

andabata,

Fresh PSU for the 600. Mean well pt-45b

andabata,

Crap, its just a tiny bit to large. Guess I need to design and print a housing for it

andabata,

Now it fits, designed a custom adapter plate for it.

andabata,

Carbon of some of the plungers didn't conduct anymore, put some adhesive copper tape on it. Hope it sticks. Are there better solutions for fixing these?

@andabata there is conductive carbon paint. I used it on my Plus4 with good success. Buy a small bottle and a little brush. Do NOT buy a pen.

@andabata beware of the ripple. :)

andabata,

@root42 Any known issues that it could cause? I use a Mean Well on my 1200 and it seems to be happy with it.

root42,
@root42@chaos.social avatar

@andabata In my experience the Mean Well are just fine. However there will be people who say that the ripple is too high. And yes, it is higher than the original Commodore PSU, but I haven't had any bad experience either. There are some PSUs with 50mVpp instead of 80mVpp, but not sure if that makes a difference...

andabata,

@root42 Can't imagine that a generic customer device like an amiga is that sensitive to 0.03v difference on the powerline either. So i kinda wonder where the worry about the ripple really comes from.

root42,
@root42@chaos.social avatar

@andabata TTL logic and other ICs can be a bit picky I heard. IIRC the maximum ripple should be below 70mVpp. So a Mean Well would be slightly over spec. In reality I haven't had any bad experiences so far. Additionally the Amiga itself produces so much noise that leaks back into the power rail that I could only measure the ripple on a resistive load. Otherwise it's drowned out by the noise from the Amiga.

@root42@chaos.social avatar

@andabata That being said: It would be nice if the PSU manufacturers would invest the 0,10 EUR for an additional filter stage that gets rid of the ripple almost completely.

@andabata sniffing magic smoke?

andabata,

@branch300bpm Yes!, i completly trust in commodores silkscreen of the amiga 600

andabata,

@branch300bpm Apparently the magic smoke was just from the flux.

branch300bpm,
@branch300bpm@vivaldi.net avatar

@andabata I'd say it's the "good" magic smoke ;)
