cat_herder, in What’s your August challenge?

108 exercise minutes x 14 days

Most days of the week I usually do around 95-100 minutes. Usually breaks down to 60 minutes AF+, 30 minute walk, and another 5-10 I pick up in the day.
Saturdays I typically do more so it brings my average up and I get challenges like this.
Pretty achievable though.

I will say that the challenges since the WatchOS update last fall are much more sane than what I was getting before that.

bowreality,

That’s impressive! I feel like the challenges are really well balanced and definitely based on my prior month. Not sure if I saw a real change with the OS update last fall.

What’s your go to category on AF+? And your fav trainers?

cat_herder,

I really like the variety of AF+. I have been "all in" for a little over 2 years now. Recently passed 2000 workouts completed.

Ranked from most frequent activity to least, with trainer preference

  • Strength - Kyle or Gregg. I really like Kyle because I feel like he moves a bit slower and gives a bit more rest between exercises. These combined together to allow you to lift heavier and challenge your muscles more than your lungs and heart. (I feel like his polar opposite is Jenn Lau who basically gives no rest. Not saying this is bad - variety is good - just not my favorite.)
  • Dance - Jhon. Love the Latin Grooves and upbeat anthems. He is very easy to follow along which leads to higher energy instead of staring in confusion. I almost never do the choreographed routines.
  • Cycling - Really tough choice. I have some favorite rides with all of the trainers.
  • Yoga - Slow Flow: Jessica, Energetic: Dice.
  • Core - No preference
  • Pilates - Darryl. "HOOOLD IT!" (I'm trying! I really am!)
  • Kickboxing - Nez
  • HIIT - Brian

I don't have a treadmill (nor do I run). I have just started to get more into Kickboxing and HIIT. I have dabbled in HIIT since the beginning but it kicks my ass so hard that I do it at most once a week. As my fitness has improved I have started to substitute more HIIT and kickboxing for Dance (I honestly think Kickboxing is the coordination of Dance combined with the intensity of HIIT, just toned down a bit... I've enjoyed it).

I have come incredibly far with AF+. I was completely sedentary before starting (desk job, no real activity). My VO2max has improved by 11 points, resting heart rate went way down, I've gained muscle mass and lost weight (not at the same time), my cholesterol has improved. I went from being able to do 3-4 pushups to 25+ in a set. It's been huge. Changed my life.

bowreality,

That’s amazing. I am a year behind you. ~800 workouts and on my 13 consecutive months of all rings (500/30/12) closed.

I had a watch long before but didn’t care for the rings. Last spring I got a new watch and with that came 3 month free AF+. Life changing as you said!! I was blown away from the beginning and since last summer I haven’t missed a day working out. If I really can’t I at least go for a 30 minutes walk! That’s invaluable and I credit AF+ 100% with that.

Gregg‘s consistency and variety totally hit home and I really live by it now.

I would rank mine as follows:

Core - I always do core as warm up. I don’t start anything else until I have at least 10 minutes core completed. I have done all of Kyle, Gregg and Amir‘s at least once now. I do other trainers too but these three are my fav.

HIIT - Jamie-Ray is incredible. I would have never though I like it let alone be able to do HIIT but boy do I love it. Unless he does burpees 😳 I just completed all his workouts yesterday. I have done several multiple times. He is fun! Kickboxing I like too but I am so uncoordinated that it’s less of a workout. Same with Dance. If I do dance it’s Jhon only. Love his vibe.

Strength - definitely Gregg and Kyle. Jenn I agree is more cardio. I prefer the two guys for sure. Gregg is super motivating and Kyle is fun. Love, love, love it.

Yoga - Dice only. And all of his. I never got into yoga even with in person classes until Dice showed up. He is different and I can’t explain it but big fan!

Rowing - love Josh! I still struggle a lot with rowing, it’s super exhausting but Josh is great. Slowly working my way up to come rowing power. I hope.

Pilates - Darryl only. Love him but I don’t do it often. I should now that I am truly through all the core ones. I could use it as warm up.

Overall the biggest (or maybe most important) change for me is mentally. I can’t go a day without some proper activity.

Of course I am also fitter, stronger, lost weight and gained muscle but the mental change is surprising to me. I would have never thought I could get there. Totally sedentary life style before AF+ and overweight and now this!!! Incredibly thankful that they started this service and for that price sign me up for a lifetime!

CarrierLost, in What’s your August challenge?

19 workout minutes, 15 times or more. Not bad, and good motivation to keep up my new workout routine.

bowreality,

Nice! We can do this!

52 exercise minutes a day for 14 days, which is almost double my goal

bowreality,

You got your work cut out for you. 💪

bowreality, in What’s your July challenge?

I got off easy it seems this time: double my exercise goal (30 min) 4x

ravenskana, in International Day of Yoga

Saving the large group 10 min workout for tomorrow’s yoga to time it with the award, looks good!

bowreality,

Me too! Looks like a ton of fun! (PS: nice to see you join here!)

cat_herder, in International Day of Yoga

I did this 10 min yoga this morning. NGL I teared up seeing nearly all the trainers at once. AF+ has been an incredible encouragement to me and a significant part in a life transformation. The trainers and the "AF+ way" to having something for everyone has really clicked. This session was 100% goal on display. Really cool to see the diverse trainer crew all in one place!

bowreality,

Awww i can’t wait. I know they are the best! I love them dearly as well. Changed my life big time. I’ll save it for Wednesday to get the yoga award. I just got this award and I am a bit emotional over it:

Apple Fitness Plus award for 52 consecutive weeks of at least one workout per week

Thanks for the tip!

This is absolutely HYPE! 🙌

Great job and super inspirational! I only JUST got the trophy for one week a few days back... even though I started trying to fill all my rings since June 1st:

A screenshot of the Apple Fitness Longest Move Streak trophy with a dialogue underneath that states "You earned this award for your longest daily Move streak. 10 days, ending on 2023-06-12. Your current streak is 3 days."

I was feeling super dead and had to take a day of rest but I'm not letting it stop me. Check back in a year and hopefully I'll have joined in with you with a 365 day streak!

bowreality,

Thank you! And well done so far yourself! Keep it going!

cat_herder, in Upgrade to my home gym

What??? Do you have an automation for that somehow? Need some details. Really cool.

cat_herder, in 365 days move goal!

Well done! Takes a ton of self discipline.

bowreality,

Thank you!
