Wow. I'm now 72% of the way towards my fundraising goal for the #May50K for MS research. Very happy with that -- but of course, I'd be happier raising even more -- so why not donate today?
Whenever I'd see those weird data points with my wrist-based heart rate while running I'd think to myself that it was either a sensor sampling issue or maybe some weird thing with acceleration. I never really studied it though. Turns out it's something called cadence lock. Maybe I'll go back to using a chest strap again for runs. #running runningwritings.com/2021/05/ca…
#running The next thing I want to explore is making DIY isotonic cocktails for my soft flasks; the goal is endurance running, so having some solid foods on me seems reasonable, but having my soft flasks filled with water containing the right amount of table sugar and rock salt (for the minerals and sodium), with some magnesium and calcium, and something for flavoring might be the cheapest and best option.
Do you have a recipe for a cocktail that works for you? What flavoring do you use?
Many of us promote these fund raising efforts so ignore it for whatever good reasons you might wish to. But I wanted to promote it for various reasons.
Ran the OC Half Marathon today! 🎉 I had so much anxiety last week about getting another stress fracture that I almost pulled out of the race. Decided to take it slow today and yay! I didn’t end up in urgent care afterwards like last time. #running
Really proud of my race today!! It's a PR on the half marathon distance for me, by 9 minutes!! I wanted to run consistently at 5 min/km and that's pretty much exactly what I did!
Weather was not optimal: about 10°C with rain and wind. Even strong head winds on the part of the course next to the river.
I'm refining my fueling strategy, that's also positive.
This gives me much more confidence for the upcoming Ottawa marathon.
A sobering article. But it all comes to understanding when and how yo push yourself and pay attention to what your body is telling you. I’m a wee bit younger but am still running the occasional marathon, lots of half marathon distances (31 in March 2024) and I have always known when to give it a rest and how valuable good shoes are (and when to dispose of them).
We were at Ancrum and decided to run along the Borders Abbey Waye from Harestanes across to the Waterloo Memorial via the ‘Count’s Folly’ a C18 observatory and summer house.
