Fair point - if you're not using digital payments, you should make the effort to get used to them. Cash is (mostly) going away. (This article also contains a guide to getting started with digital.)
Cash is dead. Why are we still pretending it isn’t?
@rae@timrichards while I agree that the hidden fees probably let the banks get away with charging more than they should, there’s pretty strong precedent for transaction charges being incorporated into point of sale prices. Transacting with and managing cash isn’t cost free for merchants.
@treleanor@timrichards Yes, the homeless beggars are the big losers. I keep a few small notes tucked into my phone case just for this purpose (I don't even carry a handbag any more... my phone does everything).
@sister_ratched@treleanor Presumably when we get to the point that no one has cash, then the beggars won't have cash either (because no one will be able to give it to them). I assume the various homeless services are addressing this now - eg cash cards without ID do exist, usually given as gift cards.
@timrichards@sister_ratched I guess gift cards will fill the bill. I feel concerned for the older guy I see; he’s trying to raise enough cash each day for a safe night’s shelter. I learned from attempting to help my neighbour, many things are beyond the experience and comprehension of some.
