goforliftoff, in Canada mulling ‘game plan’ if U.S. takes far-right, authoritarian shift, Joly says

Can that game plan involve letting me and my family relocate to Canada? Please?

Buffaloaf,

Me too! I’ll even take back everything bad thing I’ve said about the Leafs.

CarlsIII,

Sure, I might have said at one point that Bachman-Turner Overdrive were “overrated,” but it was a joke!

Canada requires you to have a plan that makes you an asset to Canada (fair enough). Certain occupations in certain provinces are in need. Having a plan to start or invest in a business and hard proof that you have the capital to do so ($2M USD) is also a possibility. Having family in Canada and already having a written job offer or business plan helps. There is also the matter of the medical clearance and demonstration of proficiency in both English and French.

FWIW, Canada does not have a retiree visa, but many countries do.

France, Costa Rica, New Zealand look mighty good. Uruguay if you are looking for no entry visa requirement, no retirement visa income requirements, duty-free on your car and the ability to buy real estate as a non-citizen. Apartment with ocean views in Punta?

DragonTypeWyvern,

Actually, you know what, we’ll just liberate you.

Spendrill, in NRA-Style Politics Transformed Canada’s Gun Culture — and Shootings Rose 869%

Guns don’t kill people… Gun nuts kill people.

Just look at this:

“There are a lot of people with firearms that shouldn’t have one,” said Tom Roberts, an Indigenous elder in La Ronge. “In small northern communities, it’s scary for a lot of people. A lot of the elders don’t go for walks in the morning or the evening like we used to.”

Imagine living in one of the most spectacular landscapes on Earth and not being able to enjoy it because some prick with a gun might not like you. These elders, they’ve not stopped because of bears, not because of moose (which are 490kg of foul temper on bandy legs) but because of insecure humans.

It’s a damn shame.

Sprawlie, in Ottawa 'failed' to manage ArriveCAN app: auditor general

I can understand the costs that are associated with it.

What I cannot understand is how poorly this was managed. I’ve implemented systems that have cost several million dollars. And I have had to be able tos how the paperwork for those costs and where they went.

Like , looking at what Arrive Can was intending to do. The scope of it’s ambition and how wide spreading it was meant to be. I can see the costs being somewhere about right.

But fuck sakes where’s the audit trail? I’d be fired for this lack of management in my profession

Gigan, in Supreme Court begins hearing arguments in secret trial case that challenges open courts principle
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

The Supreme Court of Canada began hearing arguments Tuesday on whether courts in Canada should be able to conduct secret off-the-books trials that are not listed on court dockets.

Obviously no. What kind of authoritarian bullshit is this?

TheLordHumungus, in Opinion: The best way to break Pierre Poilievre’s media-baiting strategy: ask actual questions

So does this mean the globe and mail will do proper journalism? Probably not.

TheLordHumungus, in Kitchener Centre NDP riding association calls for party leader Marit Stiles to resign after Sarah Jama oustedu

Hahaha the Canadian government is fucked. Every party is a fucking joke

jsdz, in Conservative heritage critic refuses to apologize for accusing CBC of being 'on the side of terrorists'

“The point is simple. The CBC itself said that to call Hamas terrorists was to take sides. So if they’re not going to call Hamas a terrorist organization, are they not left taking a side still?”

This point is remarkable, a truly astounding display of applied logic, but it if we consider it in the effulgent glory of its full implications it does raise one important question for the honourable member: I know you are, but what am I?

TheLordHumungus, in Justin Trudeau announces major changes to carbon pricing program after months of pressure

Increasing the rural Canadian rebates and removing heating from the levy for 3 years. Ya okay bud. Turdeau please step down.

DoctorTYVM, in Trudeau to nominate Alberta Chief Justice Mary Moreau to Supreme Court

One more reason I’m glad to be Canadian is that this news is going to make little to no difference in the political battles of today. Americas messed up supreme Court is a cautionary tale

TheLordHumungus, in Canadians want Trudeau to keep same levels of Ukraine aid, poll shows

Yes 1521 people in the large Canadian cities, which are primarily liberal. Fuck that

Ryan213, in Bank of Canada holds interest rate steady at 5%
@Ryan213@lemmy.world avatar

That’s too bad. I wanted to pay higher rates.

Son_of_dad, in Canadians want Trudeau to keep same levels of Ukraine aid, poll shows

If the government would match aid to Canadians that would be great. I’m glad we’re helping Ukraine, but it seems that our government only worries about foreign affairs and the citizens of other countries over Canadians who are drowning in rising costs

bus_go_fast, in Ford minister assured evangelical school it could get university status regardless of board review

Conservative politics. Con artists and whiners.

cyborganism, in Canadians want urgent climate action, but most not willing to pay more tax: poll

Why should we foot the fucking bill for the mess that companies have made???

FunderPants, in N.B. premier under fire, told to apologize for saying kids being taught to lie

They weren’t being taught to lie, they were excercising the freedom to choose when and who to trust with their private health and identity information.

For many teams youth, this new policy forces a choice between the closet and abuse, or homelessness. The old policy at least allowed these people to have some of the dignity afforded the rest of us, to live their lives with some control and freedom.

Just awful, and doubtless a CPC government lead by Pierre will enable these policies through either direct support or by turning a blind eye.
