OC How did you end up finding kbin? Did you migrate here from Reddit?

I was initially introduced to Mastodon a few years ago by a close friend and picked up on it quickly given the benefits of not having to deal with advertising, or being shown what a mega-corporation thought I should have to see through algorithms. I have since found a great instance over on cupoftea.social that promotes quality discussion with friendly participants.

This planted my initial seed about federated social media. I knew from some experience that it could be applied in many different ways. I started looking at Reddit alternatives recently as things started heating up over the recent API changes and came across both kbin and lemmy.

Anyways that's enough about my journey, I'm more curious about yours. What brought you here and do you plan on staying for a while?

reddit_goes_to_hell,

Found it on Reddit, knew about Lemmy for a couple of years now, but never tried it before. Been on Mastodon for 4 years now tho.

The thing I didn't like about Kbin was the mandatory email thing, really don't feel like it should be that important.

I was looking for Reddit alternatives and found a Reddit thread that mentioned that Kbin was good, so I decided to try it. So far, I like it, though I only found it yesterday. I will probably stay unless I find one I like more.

Same here, I'm hoping this site takes off as a reddit replacement

This is me as well. I’m really enjoying the connection between kbin, lemmy, and the ability to see and respond to mastodon posts. I’m completely new to the federated idea, but it’s a really cool one.

I avoided social media for years thinking it was bad for society, but isolation drove me to give it a try. I signed up for Twitter right before musk bought it and found out about Mastodon there. I signed up for Reddit right before their greed play and found out about kbin there. I love the idea of the fediverse. A marketplace of ideas without handing control of the information to one greedy bastard.

Some cool folks I trust on Mastodon recommended it, and here I am.

rmdes,

Have been on the fediverse for a few years and on Reddit since 2006, I've seen several twitter migrations since 2016 on the fediverse, and now with the Reddit migration, the web is finally coming back to its roots : people's centered, not corporation centered.

MsBluu,

Yep, here after browsing r/redditalternatives. Been using Apollo for a while now and after it goes down I’m planning to spend my time here instead.

a fellow individual from the mass exodus of reddit

vegyk0z6,

Exclusively used Apollo for Reddit. Looking to move on. Seems ok so far here!

DeFaced,

I've been on tildes.net for a while now but the discussions and posts are very limited so I would always go back to reddit. After the Apollo and reddit CEO nonsense and spez refusing to budge on the API changes I decided it was just time to move on to something else for good. Heard about lemmy, but there were some questionable groups and content I don't want to associate with on lemmy and I found kbin from that subreddit ban post on lemmy. Now I'm here and so far it's great. For anyone struggling to understand the fediverse, it's helpful for me to think of kbin as a frontend aggregator for many different sites within a single mesh network that has a clean interface.

I heard about it on Mastodon with Reddit shutting down the subreddit, and of course, that got me interested and now I'm here! 😅

After reading Save3rdPartyApps and RedditAlternatives

johnkree,

I came here from Reddit. As a former Apollo user, Apollo was the last straw that helped me using Reddit. The webpage has become unbearable and uses so much battery life...

Came here after reading on r/Save3rdPartyApps that the kbinMigration sub got banned. That's when I decided to try it out for myself. I just realized I commented here twice.

Aeoneir,

Same here. Found it because the sub advertising it got banned, lol

found this from a Mastadon post, but I am also looking for a Reddit alternative. I have loved Mastadon since moving over and am excited to see what Kbin has for potential. I'm still learning how the whole fediverse works (seeing Mastadon posts on Kbin etc) but getting there

Found a Reddit thread on alternatives, heard about the issues with lemmy and saw kbin as a good alternative so I’m here now.
