@ramsey Long ago (decades) I made it into the finals of a large local chess tournament.

I got beaten by the champion in 5 move checkmate. 🤣

I still made second place, at least.

These days I barely even remember how to play.

@ramsey on the one hand, this is a good mate, but I don't think c5 and Nd4 make sense here.

After d3 you could play Bb4 to pin the knight, but c5 blocks the bishop. A common theme in the English is a queen's pawn push; especially after White plays g3 the c-pawn is better placed on c6 to prepare d5 and also limit the scope of a g2 bishop.

Nd4 is too early; e4 was an incorrect move by White, but supposing White played Nf3 you have nothing better than trading the knights.

@dgoosens @john For the record, John and I have played 13 games. He’s won 7. I’ve won 5, and we had 1 draw. I think I’m finally starting to get better at this. 😁
