This is all well and good but ultimately is just rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic.

The real answer of course is stop drilling for oil. We could even do this unilaterally. Global supply and demand for oil are balanced on a razor, and small surpluses or deficits swell or drain inventories FAST

The us could do this unilaterally as the worlds largest producer of oil. We would take out 10% of the world’s supply sending futures to $300 a barrel.

Companies who hedge fuel production would need to find ways to cut back future use FAST. Electric car adoption would skyrocket with gas at $10 a gallon. Systemic problems require systemic solutions.

As a nice side benefit this would also greatly reduce plastic waste.

Of course we will do nothing of the sort. Quite the opposite in fact, we will continue to subsidize drilling through intangible drilling cost tax deductions (google it). It has always been profits before people, now it’s becoming more apparent that its profits before planet. The greed will stop at nothing. Capitalism is a death cult.

The only thing that will stop climate change is socialist revolution. Short of that, we are all dead. Might be in 100 years or 500, but the bill is going to come due.

maketotaldestr0i,

“socialist revolution” wouldn’t do it either. it would quite possibly increase the destruction by increasing the affluence of the poors. asssuming it wasnt the type of socialist revolution that destroys the economy. or the worst of all worlds type as historically happens where they manage to destroy the economy and the environment
