Rural area in France near swiss border. Got a tornado today. It wasn’t an extremely violent, but there is still one dead and few harmed people. First time such thing happens in the area over a long distance. ( 41 years ago there was a tornado, much more violent in the area, but it traveled 2 miles. The one of today, travelled 33 miles.

Africa is almost wholly P deficient and population is supposed to rise by 3+billion, yet they have the highest fertilizer costs in the world because supply chains and transport dont penetrate cost effectively with roadblocks every 100km across much of the continent that require bribes. so paradoxically the continent with like 80% of global P reserves and the most desperate need gets the least. Even governments and corporations doing land grabs have had trouble getting production up to standard and the costs of inputs in africa .
Anthropogenic emissions drive global-scale warming yet the temperature increase relative to pre-industrial levels is uncertain. Using 300 years of ocean mixed-layer temperature records preserved in sclerosponge carbonate skeletons, we demonstrate that industrial-era warming began in the mid-1860s, more than 80 years earlier than instrumental sea surface temperature records. The Sr/Ca palaeothermometer was calibrated against ‘modern’ (post-1963) highly correlated (R2 = 0.91) instrumental records of global sea surface temperatures, with the pre-industrial defined by nearly constant (<±0.1 °C) temperatures from 1700 to the early 1860s. Increasing ocean and land-air temperatures overlap until the late twentieth century, when the land began warming at nearly twice the rate of the surface oceans. Hotter land temperatures, together with the earlier onset of industrial-era warming, indicate that global warming was already 1.7 ± 0.1 °C above pre-industrial levels by 2020. Our result is 0.5 °C higher than IPCC estimates, with 2 °C global warming projected by the late 2020s, nearly two decades earlier than expected.

Just ignore the countless times crypto has shown it’s really only useful for scams, and money laundering.
I know this post “addressed” this point, but not to the extent that anyone with a partially functional ability to reason will be convinced. Here’s my problem… I find it excessively hard to believe that in a collapse scenario anyone would be interested in trading goods for crypto.
I’m not here to get you to invest in Bitcoin, I’m here because I believe it’s powerful software that is changing the world and I want to help people understand it. Please don’t take out a loan on your house and buy Bitcoin.
Don’t confuse “crypto” and “Bitcoin”. The crypto landscape is full of scams, people are right to be skeptical of anything crypto related. Bitcoin’s promise to have a clear economic policy and relay transactions has been faithfully followed for 15 years. If it’s a scam, it sure is taking a long time to actually scam anybody. The code is viewable for anybody who cares to look, it’s a transparent system.
Most money laundering is done through regular currency, has been for thousands of years. Oh wait, that’s not the US Dollar’s fault? Well it’s not Bitcoin’s fault either if people use it in the commission of a crime. Bitcoin is really, really bad for money laundering, just ask all the people the FBI has tracked down through their Bitcoin transactions.
@RealAccountNameHere some of the words here were almost verbatim what I tell my husband and therapist. In a way I’m really glad to see I’m not alone globally, but I still feel hurtful and profound loneliness where I live. I feel so detached from the present and everyone else, watching them go through life business as usual without any willingness to do the smallest sacrifice to their privileged comfortable lives to do whatever little bit an individual can in the face of collapse.
Meanwhile in coastal Southern California: it’s 17C and tonight the restaurants have their outdoor gas-burning heating on. For lulz, or is it just naïveté, or foolishness, or recklessness? On the other side of the mountains they reached 35C and the rest of the state is under a heatwave. “I can’t even.”
(And some have flames inside narrow vertical tubes, again for the fun of it. As if the CO2 emergency was something happening elsewhere.)
I’m gonna try to keep posting a thread like this weekly, if possible. To encourage those who need it, including myself. I don’t care where you fall on the political spectrum. We’re all screwed. We don’t have to go through this alone.
This kind of news used to come out out equatorial/tropical countries like India, etc. those are poor countries and the thought was that they couldn’t help it(because they were tropical) and couldn’t provide relief against it (because they were poor).
For this to be happening in Western Europe and USA, should be just unacceptable.
We're basically on course for infinite warming. By the time anyone decides "maybe we should, like, seriously, try to fix this?", we'll be turning into Venus.
