What's up with the crank arm being separate from the spider on this bottom bracket (how does the spider engage the spindle?) and why couldn't the chainring bolts be not directly under the crank arm?

This is also complicated by the fact that I decided to try an oval chainring, which doesn't seem to match up with this mounting alignment 😞

IDK about this elliptical ring thing but now it's a double (stick shift) with 11-34 mega range, and I can kinda get 4 of the sprockets in low but fifth is dicey, so that's overlap to 2nd, kinda third. Dig my chainline though.
