@rgarner the Earthsea books are YA - I think they really get going from the second book but the first is still good. Her sci-fi can be quite complex I think so depends how meaty they like their books! Left Hand of Darkness maybe to start, it’s easy to absorb given how big the concepts are that it deals with.
