@drunkenmadman You don't remember the Popty Ping Wars of the early 2000s, do you?

Apparently, calling a microwave a popty ping is just about the worse thing you can do to the Welsh language.

It's worse than sending your children to an English medium school, or saying “rhy gormod” for comic effect.

@drunkenmadman I was kind of joking, but for a while there was quite a backlash against “cutesy” neologisms in Welsh, especially popty-ping, which seemed to feature in every “10 Fun Welsh Words You Can Learn Today" listicle that the Western Mail published on a seemingly monthly basis.
