We shouldn't allow license and registration to become the norm

irkli,

Possibly, for extreme cases of speed or power.

More broadly, vehicles – all of them – should be taxed and licensed based upon POWER OUTPUT. 99% percent of ebikes, unlicensed.

Big fkn trucks, tax that sucker. Like Japan, below some threshold (around 900cc, 0.9 liter) the lowest.

Much fairer, inducement for manufacturers to make realistic cars, and options for people to buy reasonable cars.

Of you want 600 HP fine, you can have it.

I don't support any standards. Let customers shops make their own risk analysis. It's a damn bicycle.

simon2k6,

No. I think this is a way that the "old guard" are trying to introduce barriers to access.

It also seems like insurance and motorcycle industry are trying to protect their stake in an emerging market.

I fully support sold ebikes being sold to standards, such as speed limits, battery safety and mirrors.
