(Constructive feedback welcome!)

(It's the black white arm wrestling handshake meme, with urbansits and environmentalists as the arms, and density, transit, bike/ped and green spaces)

Apparently people who don't get this meme REALLY don't get this meme.

And are vocal about it.

Posted it to my local discord group and HOOO BOY do people think it means conflict and will not hear that they're umm...wrong.

@qkslvrwolf aside from people who don't understand the meme form, I think the problem is that I haven't seen "urbanism" as a movement people care about even 1% as much as "environmentalism"

@bolson I can point you to plenty of people in somerville and cambridge who would disagree. 🙂

And urbanism is one of the fastest routes we can take to reducing carbon output associated with human living.

Plus, it's makes for a MUCH healthier living environment. For humans AND for all other species.

@qkslvrwolf quibble: that's not urbanism for itself (cities are great!) but urbanism as a mechanism for environmentalism. thinking about it more I do know fans of 'cities' broadly.

@bolson Again, I think that largely in circles that are thinking about urbanism, the climate aspect is a big one. Articles like this https://e360.yale.edu/features/greenest_place_in_the_us_its_not_where_you_think are referenced regularly.

@bolson And besides: the intent of a meme like this is to raise awareness that these two groups of people are natural allies. If someone isn't aware of that, this is a great way to start the conversation!

@bolson ha, oh man, this video is such a great trip that ALSO encapsulates a lot of this and the extra ramifications.

I know it's long, you probably won't make it through, but this definitely pulls the reality that environmentalism and urbanism are inextricably linked for anyone who cares about humans.

Also, check out the relationship between climate channel Climate Town and urbanist channel not just bikes.
